Real-time engagement (RTE) platform pioneers Agora Inc announced on Thursday the release of a new Video Software Developer Kit (SDK) now pre-integrated in HTC VIVE’s Sync App.

Agora’s RTE solutions allows users to interact with each other across all devices via application programming interfaces (APIs), which have become some of the most popular platforms for remote collaboration and meetings in virtual reality (VR) and extended reality (XR).

The integration allows the HTC VIVE Sync App to incorporate seamless remote collaborations with non-VR users working in the same virtual environment, creating an optimal sharing experience regardless of whether users are connected with a VR headset, and also share screens and files in meetings.

HTC VIVE has risen as one of the top premium VR platforms for consumers and companies, and the firm’s ecosystem includes the VIVEPORT platform and app store, VIVE Enterprise Solutions, VIVE X VR business accelerator, and VIVE Arts to hosting creative content.

Tony Zhao, Founder and Chief Executive of Agora, said:

“Extended reality, coupled with real-time engagement, will drive the next-generation of workplace collaboration. We are excited about our work with HTC VIVE and the potential of XR live streaming because it enables seamless human connections between the real world and the metaverse, and between different metaverses, all through the power of Agora’s network”

Cher Wang, Chief Executive of HTC, added:

“The Agora RTE solution is the platform needed to bridge the virtual and physical world providing everyone a unique view into what’s happening within the virtual world and be able to interact with it. Its ease of use is an important piece of our innovation puzzle in creating meaningful human connections”

The news comes after Agora unveiled its collaboration with HTC VIVE at the VIVECON event in May, which saw the VR company launch several enterprise-level headsets.

Global firms have seen a major increase in demand for RTE collaboration tools amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, allowing people and firms to stay connected with powerful immersive tools.

Further Developments in VR APIs

The news comes after other firms launched VR and augmented reality (AR) solutions, with Dutch startup Fectar stating it had reached 3 million app installations for its platform.

The firm has quickly reached one of the top positions in the 3D VR/AR content market to facilitate the building and sharing of creative works for school, businesses, and clients with its multi-device platform.

US tech giant Google Inc also announced the release of its Depth API, which will upgrade its ARC 1.18 version for Android and Unity, significantly boosting depth sensing with a new SLAM process.
