VIVEPORT by HTC has increased the developer revenue share to an ‘industry leading’ 90 percent, adding support to the XR developer community.
Also described by VIVEPORT, the HTC store for XR games and apps, as a “ground-breaking moment for the VR and MR industry”, the new revenue split is higher than any other XR-focussed platform.

From April 1st, 2024 for all new VIVEPORT titles, and from March 1st for existing titles, developers will keep 90 percent of revenue on one-time purchases for games and apps on VIVEPORT for PCRV or VIVE XR Elite.
Joseph Lin, General Manager of VIVEPORT, explains why it is so important to effectively compensate its developers:
“Developers are the heartbeat of the XR ecosystem—when they thrive, the whole industry thrives.
“That’s why we’re introducing a generous 90% revenue share on purchases of apps and games on the VIVEPORT store for developers to accelerate their growth.
“By putting more resources directly into the hands of the creators, we’re ensuring VIVEPORT is at the forefront of driving growth for the XR community.”
New Revenue Split
Developers can already benefit from retroactive revenue shares on hundreds of premium titles, including The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners, After the Fall, Fracked, SUPERHOT, and Blade and Sorcery.
VIVEPORT also hosts the only PCVR subscription plan, VIVEPORT Infinity, which gives users total access to a massive library of PCVR games and applications in return for a single monthly payment. Infinity supports all the major PCVR headsets, such as VIVE XR Elite via VIVE Streaming, and Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3 through Link.
VIVEPORT clarified that the new revenue share model is for one-time purchases and will not, therefore, impact the VIVEPORT Infinity subscription model.
By comparison, one of VIVEPORT’s major rivals, Steam, offers its developers a 70 percent share of revenue. In 2018, it increased this revenue share to 75 percent for developers of games that make more than $10 million. Even the larger of these two percentages is 15 percent below VIVEPORT’s new revenue split.
According to the US VR-focussed publication UploadVR, the previous split was 70/30. It also reported changes to the revenue share having occurred in 2018, in which HTC gave developers 100 percent of revenue from October 1st until the end of the year, and again in 2019 where it increased the split to 80/30.
Further Platform Benefits
As well as receiving 90 percent of revenue, HTC’s XR store makes developer apps and games globally available, with 70 supported currencies.
Apps will be added to an XR-dedicated platform, ensuring it is in front of the ideal audience for your niche.
VIVEPORT also offers bespoke marketing support through which developers can get help launching campaigns and taking advantage of HTC VIVE’s channels.
Storefronts are curated by VIVEPORT’s team with developer and consumer needs guiding their decisions.
There are also multiple distribution options on VIVEPORT, including PCVR, Infinity, VIVE XR Elite. Both PCVR and VIVE XR Elite offer developers a 90 percent revenue split, while Infinity provides up to 80 percent of subscription revenues.
Finally, all submissions to submit apps for publication on VIVEPORT are completely free.
HTC is due to host an event to showcase its latest developer news and product updates, as well as reinforce its commitment to a stronger developer community and XR ecosystem.
