Virtual Reality (VR) chemistry app “The Molecule Builder Lab” has been made available through the Oculus App Lab Store since May 25th.
The Oculus App Lab store features experimental projects that have not gone through the full Oculus review process—a great platform for budding developers and eLearning applications.
Florida-based extended reality (XR) firm Xennial Digital originally designed the Molecule Builder earlier this year for PC-VR devices and following the successful project, Xennial Digital now has its sights firmly set on the Quest 2’s massive install base.
The Molecule Builder Lab provides hands-on chemistry training, Douglas Fajardo, Xennial Digital CEO/CXO said in a LinkedIn post, adding the app is “ideal for summer camps and global schools.”
The application tests students with different levels of experiential learning that turns textbook theory into hands-on training.
Students build molecules from atoms through interactive 3D visuals to teach students how atoms exist within a molecule bond.
The Builder puts the molecules through a VSEPR model to determine the molecule’s overall polarity.
The application is also available for PC tethered devices such as the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift via Steam.
Xennial Digital has also been seeking aviation organizations to partner on a flight simulator, becoming another solution the firm could port to the Quest 2.
eLearning with Oculus Quest 2
Since April, 2019 Facebook has supported VR training with customised tools on its Quest for Business platform.
The wireless Oculus Quest 2 brings unrivalled accessibility for in-house developers, with ice hockey trainers and classrooms using the headset as the benchmark for many VR solutions.
Chinese-firm DPVR released Starlink for the Quest 2, which wirelessly connects up to 40 students for a shared eLearning environment.
Oculus has additional institutions in mind and recently updated its Quest lineup firmware to version 30, bringing Airlink support to the devices.
The Airlink update allows for any Quest headset to play PC-VR games wirelessly, providing an easy set-up for enterprises and institutions seeking to stream VR collaboration software.
