Varjo Technologies, a Finnish provider of enterprise-grade mixed reality (MR) headsets, revealed at a virtual event on Thursday its mixed reality (MR) ‘Teleport’ solution for remote collaboration and communication.

The programme uses outward-facing cameras on Varjo’s XR-3 headsets to stream a user’s real-world environment to create an online digital twin for multiple individuals to interact with.

The enterprise-first solution allows individuals to teleport to remote coworker’s desks or engage in a remote collaboration sessions.

At the event, Varjo’s Jussi Makinen, Chief Brand Officer, and Urho Konttori Founder and Chief Technology Officer, said users could expect consumer support after refining the software.

Varjo is powering its teleportation software with Reality Cloud Service, a digital delivery system that simultaneously streams real-time 3D (RT3D) customisable assets to multiple cross-platform users.

The file size of a Reality Cloud Digital Twin is only 10 to 30 megabits, or less than a Netflix movie stream, to create a seamless and low-latency MR session.

It took Varjo years to develop the Reality Cloud platform after reaching out to multiple groups to support the project, leading to $100 million USD from investors such as Swedish automotive firm Volvo.

The announcement comes after Varjo unveiled its Aero virtual reality (VR) headset for flight simulators and virtual training. In response, Varjo has begun accepting orders for the Aero, which costs $1,990 without SteamVR base stations or controllers.

Varjo also noted its work with VRM Switzerland, which allowed the facility to receive certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to use the Aero for professional pilot training.
