Qualcomm Technologies announced on Thursday that it had boosted its partnership with Samsung Electronics to expand collaboration on the former’s Snapdragon XR platform.

The strategic deal will allow the Santa Clara-based firm to expand collaboration for future Samsung products, namely in extended reality (XR), smartphones, laptops, tablets, and others.

It will also extend patent licence agreements for mobile technologies covering 3G to 5G, as well as future 6G components up to late 2030.

Both companies aim to continue their success record and commitment to developing XR technologies, including building ecosystems to facilitate device interoperability.

Cristiano Amon, President and Chief Executive for Qualcomm, said the extension evidenced the “mutual commitment to long term collaboration,” adding its relationship had “never been stronger.”

He continued, stating,

“For more than two decades we’ve worked together to lead the industry and we are pleased to continue this strategic partnership to develop innovative technologies and products using Snapdragon platforms to power more Samsung premium devices globally”

Dr TM Roh, President and Head of MX Business for Samsung, added Qualcomm’s technologies had “played a pivotal role” in the advancement of the mobile industry.

He added,

“The collaboration between Samsung and Qualcomm spans many years and these agreements reflect our close and long-standing strategic partnership. We are committed to working with Qualcomm to advance the mobile industry and users’ experiences for future Samsung Galaxy devices”

The news comes as Qualcomm reached similar milestones with major multinational firms such as ArborXR, T-Mobile, and Lenovo, with ArborXR striking a deal to build device management software for Qualcomm XR users and firms for large-scale deployments.

The telecommunications component firm also partnered with T-Mobile for an accelerator programme, allowing developers and startups to contribute to novel solutions to expand Snapdragon Spaces-based technologies and ecosystems.
