New Apple MR Headset May Require Tethering

News of Apple’s upcoming mixed reality (MR) headset released last week found the anticipated head-mounted device may require tethering with iPhones or Mac computers for full functionality.

The Information broke the news, which found Apple’s system-on-a-chip (SoC) included in the headset would not offer capabilites similiar to other devices with the tech giant’s M1 processor neural engine.

The update comes after a report last year found earlier prototypes for the device would have included a “stationary hub” similar to a “small Mac”, sparking a move to a self-contained design for later iterations.

Hello, Arthur! VR Enterprise Platform Launches Stable Version

XR Today attended a press conference with global virtual reality (VR) office space provider Arthur last week, where the firm released its Professional Edition platform as a stable build.

The platform provides numerous features for Fortune 500 firms and global organisations, including Nestle, the United Nations, Boston Consulting Group, and others, to remain connected in the virtual world, namely amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Christoph Fleischmann, Arthur Founder and Chief Executive, said at the time the stable release was the “next step in the evolution of productivity and is a new chapter” for his company, which would provide “enterprises with a solution capable of providing deep and meaningful collaboration.”

Lenovo, Qualcomm Partner on ThinkReality A3

US tech giant Qualcomm discussed its partnership with Lenovo to provide several key components for the Chinese firm’s ThinkReality A3 Smart Glasses, which were opened for sales in late July.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870 processor and XR-1 SmartViewer have been included in the tethered headset to provide impressive computing and cross-platform performance.

Qualcomm added the technologies aimed to “increase productivity, reduce error rates, and decrease resolution times,” allowing businesses to optimise workflows, immersive training, and other demands.

According to Jon Pershke, Vice-President of Strategy and Emerging Business at Lenovo’s Intelligent Devices Group, global industries had “reached a tipping point in the AR field” amid increased usage and return on investment on the technologies.

IVTS, Survivr Design XR Trainers For US Military

VR training firm InVeris Training Solutions (IVTS) bought out Dallas-based research and development (R&D) firm Survivr in a bid to boost its immersive training solutions for the police and the military.

The firm announced it had launched VR trainers to educate law enforcement and military personnel, which aimed to de-escalate crises and stressful situtuations, minimise tragic confrontations, and facilitate better communication while on-duty.

Gamooz EduTech Powers Learning with AR Solutions

XR Today recently spoke with Garuav Wadhwa, Founder of AR book platform Gamooz, who shared his knowledge and history of developing EdTech platforms for young learners.

Gamooz achieved meteoric success, in India and abroad, after it built a proprietary solutions to provide 2D intereactive content for publishers for young students learning science, physics, maths, and others.

Mr Wadhwa explained at the time he wanted to “create a solution where we could make 1000s of pages interactive, rather than just maybe 10 pages interactive, or just one marketing activity.”
