This week, a report from Bloomberg highlighted how Apple plans to release a more affordable second-generation Vision Pro model in 2026. Moreover, the report noted that Apple will also release visionOS 2.0 – the framework that enables the device’s spatial computing solutions – by the end of the year, perhaps lining up with WWDC 2024.
Details on both the potential 2026 second-generation Vision Pro and visionOS 2.0 come as the firm looks to boost retail sales of its current $3,499 device. Bob Borchers, Apple’s Vice President of Product Marketing, is leading a drive to increase Vision Pro purchases ahead of international scaling.
According to reports, Apple is asking retail customers who are trialling the Vision Pro in-store to fill out questionnaires to help Apple understand how close potential adopters are in their XR device journey.
If Borchers and the Apple team can properly leverage feedback and apply it to future distribution plans, the firm may push an adoption uptick.
Apple has not confirmed where the Vision Pro will land next – with some thinking China will receive the headset by the end of the year.
Moreover, recent reports have highlighted how the Vision Pro keyboard will soon support new languages – which some believe gives insight into future regional availability – including Cantonese [Traditional], Chinese [Simplified], English [Australia], English [Canada], English [Japan], English [Singapore], English [UK], French [Canada], French [France], German, Japanese, and Korean.
Recent Vision Pro News
Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations and Enterprise Marketing, Susan Prescott, recently noted that Vision Pro represents a tremendous opportunity for businesses to reimagine what’s possible at work.
Prescott noted:
We’re thrilled to see the innovative ways organizations are already using Apple Vision Pro, from planning fire response operations to iterating on the most intricate details of an engine design — and this is just the beginning. Combined with enterprise-grade capabilities like mobile device management built into visionOS, we believe spatial computing has the potential to revolutionize industries around the world.
The future of work is square in Apple’s sight, and to ensure positive enterprise adoption curves, the firm is refining its current US-exclusive product.
Apple is working on the small steps needed to build visionOS 2.0. The firm’s recent visionOS 1.2 update improves products such as Vision Prom, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.
The company seems to be working diligently on improving Vision Pro and its features, such as the Persona system recently updated to version 1.1. While it has been distributed in the US, the company continues enhancing the product before it becomes available in international markets. The latest 1.2 update is still in its early beta stages, with the Vision Pro developers periodically testing the most recent build before its general release.
