This Thursday, Nreal debuted iOS support for its augmented reality (AR) smart glasses portfolio. The Chinese firm posted the announcement on its social media pages, confirming Nreal Air’s compatibility with the recently announced iPhone 14 and 14 Pro.

Nreal first teased the technology crossover before Apple’s technology showcase last Wednesday. At the event, Apple debuted fresh technology updates, including the 14 and 14 Pro iPhone models and a new smartwatch, although, the firm did not reveal any extended reality (XR) products at the event, despite prevalent rumours.

Apple 14 adopters can use their new smartphone as a controller for the Nreal Air smart glasses. The AR device also connects to a smartphone to assist with processing requirements, and the operator’s smartphone supplies navigational input for Nreal’s spatial menus.

Nreal designed its Air product as an immersive media streaming device with the hardware displaying 130-inch immersive screens. The Air AR product also contains a 46-degree field of view, 90Hz refresh rate, 77-gram frame, and 5G integration to boost its immersive streaming abilities.

The Chinese firm recently updated its software development kit (SDK) to include eye and hand-tracking features. In August, Nreal added hand-tracking navigation for adverts.

Shortly after, the firm updated its AR SDK to introduce updates such as plane detection, speech-to-text, gesture recognition, and on-native keyboard support.

In May, Nreal debuted its Air smart glasses in the UK via partners EE for £395. Nreal also introduced the device on US shores last year following legal troubles.

What to do With Nreal Air?

Nreal’s immersive streaming device is gaining significant traction following its western debut. Over the past year, the AR hardware manufacturers secured various funding opportunities, enabling the Chinese firm to scale its solution globally. Nreal secured $15 million in August, a further $60 million in March, and $100 million in September 2021.

The Air device can stream media and video games when connected to a steam VR-ready desktop. The device also comes packed with Nreal TV, a streaming application that contains the firm’s prototype hand-tracking advertising opportunities.

Additionally, Nreal is partnering with major sports broadcasting companies to enhance its events and increase the visibility of its AR product. In August, Nreal augmented two major football broadcasts, working with BT Sport for the Premier League and Devon Football League (DFL) for the Supercup 2022.
