Last week, global smart glasses vendor Nreal teamed up with Immersiv.io to showcase “Personalized 3D”, a system that displays augmented reality (AR) visualizations for live broadcasts.

In a video posted last week, Nreal, Immersiv, and the Devon Football League (DFL) came together to give viewers at home an AR-ready live stream of the SuperCup 2022. The social media post writes Nreal’s streaming solution as the “future of TV.”

Nreal’s Personalized 3D live streams include virtual screens to view the broadcast, accompanying AR visualizations for event analytics, and interactable AR real-time 3D (RT3D) assets.

The video shows a group of users in a real-world space wearing Nreal Air smart glasses viewing the same game provided by a Sky streaming application. Moreover, Nreal operators can move AR visualizations around their environment, such as placing an RT3D asset on their coffee table.

Nreal also works alongside BT Sport to enhance the Premier League broadcast using AR hardware and 5G.

The firm’s hardware provides AR visualizations with key stats while a viewer streams a Premier League match on a virtual screen. Nreal’s smart glasses plug into a user’s smartphone to assist navigation during an event and offloading processing requirements.

Augmenting the Tour De France

For July’s Tour de France 2022 and Women’s Tour de France tournaments, Nreal teamed up with long-time event partners Orange and Zwift to boost at-home event coverage.

The immersive event coverage provided AR-ready viewers with map visualizations to discover cyclist checkpoints, positions, and stats.

Immersiv also assisted in the Tour de France broadcast by creating an AR visualization of the Director of the Tour de France, Christian Prudhomme. The real-time 3D (RT3D) visualization of the event’s Director guides a viewer through the event and its storied history.

The alliance also allows Orange to boost 5G coverage in the French region, using newly built 5G/4G/3G networks to transmit event data. To achieve this, Orange installed 4G mobile relays in 46 stopover towns, with an additional 10 locations gaining 5G networks.

The mass network installation pushes Orange’s telecommunications influence into roughly 637 4G-ready French municipalities and a further 457 ready for fibre optics.
