Augmented reality (AR) firm 8th Wall unveiled its Release 17 AR Engine update on Tuesday, which offers huge improvements in mapping accuracy for its proprietary SLAM system.
The huge update allows developers to build more realistic WebAR Portals for World Effects as well as greater freedom in exploring AR experiences, the company said.
8th Wall also improved above-horizon tracking used when pointing phones upwards when viewing AR content such as fireworks, spacecraft, and other sky objects.
The update also boosts optimised relocalisation capabilities, which keeps AR content in position after interruptions or pointing phones awa from AR scenes, it added.
The news comes after the company’s Release 16 launched in April, which boosted SLAM accuracy 50 percent and frame rates up to 70 percent, 8th Wall said.
Updates include a Moon Portal, which offers users the chance to try out new horizon tracking and relocalisation features, as well as video textures, 360-degree environment optimisations, and a ‘wormhole experience’ with an accesible physics library.
8th Wall Empowers AR Marketing Campaigns
The latest release comes as 8th Wall continues to work with key advertisers such as Nike, Lego, and Universal across roughly 3.5 billion smartphones and devices.
The company’s Release 16 update has added huge benefits to facilitate increased customer engagement, leading to a jump in user experience times.
8th Wall has also recently worked on advert campaigns for Space Jam: A New Legacy, Verizon Wireless’ Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, and Michelob, among many others.
