Mark Zuckerberg has posted a review of the Apple Vision Pro headset, unsurprisingly drawing the conclusion that his company’s Quest 3 headset is better.
The Meta CEO also took a shot at Apple “fanboys”, while criticising Apple for its closed system.
In an Instagram post with the title captioned, “I tried Vision Pro. Here’s my take, shot with Quest’s high resolution mixed reality passthrough,” Zuckerberg ultimately spent as much time – if not more – talking about the Quest 3 as he did the Vision Pro.
“I expected that Quest would be the better value for most people since it’s really good and it’s, like, seven times less expensive,” Zuckerberg said.
“But, after using it, I don’t just think that Quest is better value. I think that the Quest is a better product, period.
“The different companies made different design decisions for the headsets; they have different strengths but overall Quest better for the vast majority of things that people use mixed reality for.”
Zuckerberg’s video was recorded by a friend using a Quest 3 headset, which the pair used to demonstrate that Meta’s headset can do some of the things that the Vision Pro has been lauded for since its launch.
Watchers are able to see various open windows either side of Zuckerberg using the Quest’s passthrough feature.

The Meta boss declared the Quest 3 more comfortable than the Vision Pro – partly because it’s lighter – and said it benefits from “no wires”, referring to the cable that links the Vision Pro headset to its external battery.
Next up was the visuals. Zuckerberg said that the Quest’s field of view is wider and the screen brighter, pointing out “a motion blur as you move around” when using the Vision Pro – compared to Quest’s “crisper” view.
He acknowledged the higher resolution of the Vision Pros but criticised Apple for making “trade-offs” in quality, comfort and ergonomics to include some of its features.

In one concession, Zuckerberg seemingly confirmed that the Vision Pro’s eyetracking is superior to the Quest 3.
“Apple’s eye tracking is really nice,” he admitted.
He said that the sensors used in Apple’s headset are the same used in Meta’s more expensive Quest Pro headset (which was only mentioned this one time) but were not included in the Quest 3.
“We’re going to bring them back in the future,” he added.
Hand tracking was, unsurprisingly, deemed more accurate with the Quest 3.
Zuckerberg finished his short review rather philosophically, reflecting on the opposing approaches of open and closed systems in computing. He said Apple won the mobile era with a closed model, but said Microsoft one the PC era with an open model.
“In this next era, Meta is going to be the open model, and I really want to make sure that the open model wins out again.”
