South Korean tech giant Samsung has launched an augmented reality (AR) filter on India’s Instagram and Facebook apps, allowing shoppers to virtually try out the tech company’s Frame TV in homes.
Consumers can place The Frame, a lifestyle-branded TV set, in living spaces using their smartphone’s camera, and select options such as bezel and artwork features, sizing, and decor, among others.
People can also enter the Suwon-based firm’s AR filter contest, where up to four participants can win The Frame TV by uploading screenshots of the AR tool on social media using the #SamsungIndia hashtag.

The contest comes as firms such as 8th Wall, Bigtincan, Facebook, Microsoft and Nextech compete for the AR advert revenues and prepare to develop the Metaverse, sparking a global ‘virtual space race’.
Vancouver, Canada-based AR company Nextech recently announced it would integrate 3D advert solutions onto popular social media platforms such as Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram, where the firms can access Google’s huge ad network for billions of daily active users.
Facebook also revealed new AR developer tools to facilitate 3D content creation for roughly 600,000 developers across the internet, or one of the world’s largest AR developer platforms.
