Goodwill, US, has teamed with UK’s Accenture to integrate a virtual reality training program named Project Overcome. This solution is designed to train individuals with criminal backgrounds, helping them gain employment by using a mixture of mock VR interviews and situations.

Running for around a month, Project Overcome has helped 50 clients and with the help of Accenture this number will start to increase.

Project Overcome acts a VR extension of Goodwill’s “Good Start” prisoner re-entry program. Here, Goodwill help individuals to find work in manufacturing, industrial maintenance, information technology; many sectors that have already seen successful AR/VR integration from an enterprise point of view.

Goodwill creating a VR based re-entry programme will also introduce clients to VR workflows and training; this is becoming integral training as more and more sectors introduce AR/VR workflows.

According to a 2016 study, that focused on the “Hope for Prisoners” programme, found that “64% of participants found stable employment post-graduation” with only 6% of participants being re-incarcerated within 18 months. Project Overcome could offer even better figures with the VR immersive learning experience that is on offer.

Accenture and Skills to Succeed:

“We care deeply about what we do and the impact we have with our clients and communities.” – Julie Sweet, Accenture Chief Executive Officer

Accenture, who were named on “Barron’s 20 Most Sustainable International Companies” are the perfect partners for Goodwill, between the two companies the drive to aid and support communities is clear. In coming together, Accenture and Goodwill can present each other with unique and strong assets to make the best out of Project Overcome.

With a large portion of their business focused on outreach, their “Skills to Succeed” programme is supporting and empowering people to take on the shifting workforce landscape by introducing technologies (and not just VR) to those who need help starting their businesses or pursing their career aspirations.

There is a shining list of case studies available to look over on their website; Accenture are providing business opportunities across the globe and with Project Overcome they move into a world of VR immersive learning.

With reports of an incredibly strong 2021 2nd quarter, this success could be feed back into Project Overcome. Perhaps allowing for further outreach for Project Overcome in the US and it’ll be interesting to see how its success will effect on-boarding procedures in the future.
