Sony Music Solutions Inc is set to debut the global version of the hit anime series Sword Art Online’s EX CHRONICLE instalment next month, it announced on Wednesday.

The multinational Japanese conglomerate supports the global entertainment industry with several key solutions, including package marketing and planning, live concerts, exhibitions and events, merchandise, e-commerce, websites and apps, and many others.

Sony Music Solutions recently expanded its product lineup of immersive solutions, namely after launching its MITENE augmented reality (AR) digital signage system for registering AR-powered visuals for distributing creative content.

The firm, which has developed a portfolio of technologies from its California-based Innovation Studios such as its Atom View volumetric video tool, showcased next-generation 360-degree filmmaking and audio tools at the Consumer Electronics Show 2021 with artists Madison Beer and Zara Larsson.

The firm has backed current and upcoming talent with its Reality, Real-Time, and Remote (3R) technology, allowing Madison to perform as a hyperrealistic avatar for her Life Support album debut.

Larsson demoed Sony’s 360 Reality Audio immersive sound solution in a separate performance at the CES 2021 to showcase the company’s growing lineup of innovations.

The Sword Art Online event is the latest in a series of immersive events taking place to capture the global entertainment industry, with many such events receiving praise and acclaim for their masterful visions of trending music, film, and art.

Sword Art Online Event Details

Fans of the widely-popular art series can catch the English version of the exhibition in Japan and join its virtual reality (VR) and cross-platform experiences globally to view anime materials, immersive experiences, and buy official physical and non-fungible token (NFT) merchandise.

Japanese singer ReoNa will join the event with several songs from the series using Sony’s virtual camera systems and other motion capture (mocap) technologies in an online performance.

The immersive experience plans to debut locally in Japan and globally for fans in Germany, Hong Kong, Korea, Macau, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, United Kingdom, and United States.

Rise of XR Entertainment Industry

Sony Music Solutions’ adoption of the celebrated Sword Art Online series comes amid an industry-wide pivot to Metaverse and immersive solutions to promote several key events.

The Foo Fighters hosted their Metaverse-inspired concert after Super Bowl LVI on Quest 2 devices this month, using visual effects, a bespoke stage, and real-time 3D (RT3D) content.

The legendary James Bond series opened its latest movie instalment, ‘No Time to Die’ on Meta Venues last year amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and nationwide lockdown restrictions.

Stage Inc’s Metaverse platform, Stageverse, hosted British rock band Muse in a 360-degree immersive performance using innovative stereoscopic technologies.

Additional artists such as Dave Guetta, Snoop Dogg, Ed Sheeran, Steve Aoki, Grimes, and others have openly backed Metaverse and virtual spaces to support the growth of immersive concerts, with many visualised as volumetrically-captured avatars performing in immersive virtual worlds.

Media and other giants such as Walt Disney, Epic Games, McDonald’s, NBCU, as well as the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing have adopted Metaverse technologies, including volumetric video, RT3D content creation, and online virtual spaces, among others, to invest in and back the internet successor.
