The acclaimed ACM SIGGRAPH 2021 will host an immersive programming exhibit showcasing numerous experiences at its Immersive Pavilion and VR Theater from 9 to 13 August.

SIGGRAPH 2021 will follow last year’s theme by educating attendees on the processes of creating experiential projects via Q&A sessions and videos available on demand.

Projects at the event will include work from over 15 countries, including Ireland, Iran, Taiwan, the United States, and Kenya, among others. An expert panel of jurors and reviewers have also selected 15 projects for the VR Theater to complement the Immersive Pavilion’s 23 total exhibits.

Many of the projects will highlight how technology has influenced art, science, communication, and human interactions amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and an additional VR experience “Mementorium” will also debut from the Queer Code Collective.

Attendees joining the sessions can experience the immersive projects with select hardware devices.

Larry Bafia of the Center for Digital Media and SIGGRAPH 2021 VR Theater Director, said:

“My team and I are thrilled to spotlight an incredible selection of projects and offer a look at how each was created. You won’t want to miss our sneak peek of the next frontier of short-form narrative through virtual reality”

Callie Holderman, SIGGRAPH 2021 Immersive Pavilion Chair, added recent innovations in VR/AR hardware had “made rich interactions possible”.

She said in a statement:

“The content this year spans pragmatic applications for medicine, historical preservation, training, and evocative storytelling and entertainment, and will spark rich discussion about the next wave of cross-platform and co-presented immersive experiences”
