Following US tech giant Facebook’s major update it had rebranded as Meta, Andrew Bosworth, Vice President of Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), announced the firm is working on new methods to log into Quest devices without a mandatory Facebook account.

The upcoming shift reflects how Meta will respond to user and enterprise feedback, Bosworth said, adding the new login methods would take effect “sometime next year.”

As it stands, Meta for Business users would be the first to receive the new login options, which could quickly expand across all Meta Quest users, adding “this is one of our highest priority areas of work internally.”

The news comes amid a report from the US tech giant, which found 75 percent of adults globally wanted to communicate with businesses via messaging apps.

To reflect the figures, Meta is planning a series of easy-to-use enterprise communication tools for its Horizon Metaverse platform to boost digital collaboration, including Facebook Messenger, Instagram, Dropbox, and Slack.

Earlier in the year, Meta for Business updated its Spark AR and Multipeer API systems to improve customer experiences and retention across Meta’s umbrella of social media platforms.

Major Oculus Rebranding

Bosworth also noted Oculus’ standing as a brand, where he revealed its VR products would no longer carry the Oculus brand, but would instead unify the hardware under the new Meta name in early 2022.

The company will initiate the changes under “Meta Quest,” where the Menlo Park-based firm also plans to rebrand additional products such as its ‘Portal’ range of telecommunication devices.

Bosworth explained further, stating,

“When people buy our products, we want them to clearly understand that all of these devices come from Meta and ladder up to our metaverse vision”

The comments come Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO and Founder, teased Meta’s Project Cambria and Project Nazare VR and AR headsets, respectively, to back his new vision for online communications.

Meta’s top exec is also expected to reveal more about the new kit at next year’s event, where it is likely the Oculus brand will no longer appear on either headset.
