Oculus is rolling out its Air Link PC Streaming feature for the Quest 2 VR headset. Oculus Air Link is part of the v28 software update for Oculus headset users. According to a tweet by Facebook Reality Labs Head, Andrew Bosworth, the feature will be available on v28 on PC and Quest 2 headset. For those who haven’t got the update yet, ‘it’s coming very soon.’

Air Link allows Quest 2 users to play PC VR games wirelessly on their headsets. Users do have to have a strong Wi-Fi connection to be able to experience this option fully. Air Link was previously disabled on v28, however, according to Upload, Quest 2 users found a way to ‘unofficially’ turn on the feature which led Oculus to warn its users of the unrepresentative experience of the final result.

Bosworth says Oculus is releasing the feature earlier than planned because “the excitement over Air Link can’t be contained”. The release was initially scheduled for next week, so Bosworth’s tweet moves it up by a few days.

Air Link was developed from Oculus Link which used a USB-C cable to run PC VR games on the previously standalone Oculus Quest line of devices. Oculus still states that a cable ensures the best graphical quality and charge your headset while it’s in use, unlike Air Link.

A similar wireless feature could be found in a third-party app called Virtual Desktop. If Air Link fulfils users’ expectations, Virtual Desktop could fall into oblivion. Oculus is not currently bringing the feature to its original Quest headset.

Classed as an experimental feature, Air Link could cause some bugs around the launch, similar to the original Link.
