Meta is adding its AI assistant Meta AI to its Meta Quest VR headsets.

The intelligent technology can provide users with real-time information powered by Bing.

Meta AI has built-in Meta Llama technology and has also received been updated to include Meta AI with Vision, enabling your smart glasses to share your view of the world so that it can bring you text translations, fashion tips, and more.

According to the US tech titan, these Meta AI upgrades will begin rolling out in the US and Canada next month in ‘experimental mode’, although Meta AI with vision will not be available on Meta Quest 2.

In Meta’s related press release, it provided some potential use cases for Meta AI:

“Let’s say you’re watching YouTube videos of some breathtaking hikes in mixed reality while packing for your upcoming trip to Joshua Tree.

“You can ask Meta AI for advice on how to best dress for the summer weather. Or you could hold up a pair of shorts and say, ‘Look and tell me what kind of top would complete this outfit.’

“You can get the forecast so you can prep for the weather ahead and even ask for local restaurant recommendations to indulge your inner foodie.”

It also points to further possible uses of Meta AI, such as listening to music while you are doing your schoolwork.

For example, you could ask Meta AI to find some memorable Shakespeare quotes or ask it to explain the significance of Hamlet’s famous “to be or not to be” soliloquy.

Alternatively, Meta imagines that you could be playing Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, when you suddenly feel inspired to find out whether there were ever assassins operating in Boston. You can simply ask Meta AI in real-time.

The first smart glasses to include Meta AI was Ray-Ban Meta, which have reportedly smashed sales expectations since their release in October last year, surpassing that of Ray-Ban’s previous ‘Stories’ version.

In fact, the biggest differentiator between Ray-Ban Meta and Ray-Ban Stories was the introduction of Meta AI.

Now, Meta Quest is gaining the intelligent assistant and Meta has assured that as the technology continues to advance it will perform regular software updates.

Meta’s blog post also touched on the exposure that its Meta AI has already had: “Millions of people have already tried Meta AI via Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, the web, and Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, and we’re thrilled for even more to tap into the power, intelligence, and utility of Meta AI on Quest 3.

“It’s still early days, and there’s more functionality to come. We can’t wait to see how you use Meta AI in-headset, and we’ll have more updates to share soon.”

Meta is reportedly planning to release its Meta Quest 4 headset in 2026 and a competitor to the Vision Pro in 2027.

Last week, the business technology publication ‘The Information’ reported that Meta is planning to launch Meta Quest 4 in 2026 and a competitor to the Vision Pro in 2027.

It also asserts that the US technology corporation has a third headset in store, also due to come out in 2026, which is likely to be a more affordable variant of the Quest 4.

This would make sense seeing as Meta released its Quest 3 in October last year and is expected to bring out its ‘lite’ version in around the same time this year.
