The Immerse Platform is a enterprise-grade cloud service for the deployment and management of virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) applications, and the US firm distributes VR training and collaboration tools across many global businesses such as DHL and Shell.

Immerse is now debuting a software development kit (SDK) that enables VR developers to create custom enterprise-grade VR training and collaboration tools.

The intuitive SDK provides VR software developers with a toolkit that streamlines development pipelines to speed up and reduce the cost of VR production timelines.

In a statement to AR/VR magazine, Justin Parry, Immerse Chief Operating Officer, noted that “enterprise organizations are looking for standardization, both in terms of user experience and data.”

He continued, stating the Immerse SDK offers a free route to VR platform development with further “optional upgrade path[s] to an industry-leading and scalable XR platform.”

By incorporating the new system, enterprises and developers can receive the freedom to manage aspects of content production, with assistance and resources from Immerse, to seamlessly integrate VR applications into existing workplace IT infrastructure.

Improving Worker Satisfaction

By releasing Immerse SDK for free, the firm hopes to tackle dissatisfaction with worker training due to poor quality or a lack of training opportunities.

Recently, Immerse released its ‘Upskill Ultimatum’ report, which conducted research into diverse reskilling and upskilling across 1,000 knowledge workers and 1,000 HR professionals in the UK and US.

Immerse conducted the study across several verticals such as transport, pharmaceuticals, and professional services, and found many employees demanded a new approach to training.

It found 64 percent of HR professionals and 58 percent of employees responded that VR training could improve productivity, adding 70 percent of HR professionals and 62 percent of employees think VR/AR solutions provided a safer training environment.

A Scalable VR Toolkit

The Immerse Platform is available for free and its open SDK allows developers to easily join to begin creating and distributing enterprise-grade VR.

Both in-house and third-party developers can easily handle numerous production challenges with the Immerse team, who assist from “initial ideation of a concept through to full deployment.”

Powered by Unity, the tools’ intuitive engine allows developers to create either single or multi-user VR content with imported original or preexisting, physics-based, and interactive assets.

The platform also allows users to upgrade to a enterprise account to add features such as reporting, security, and on-demand guidance to help integrate the platform.

Immerse have also released a production roadmap for fourth quarter 2021 to first quarter 2022, which outline new SDK features, including:

  • A dynamic NPC System for creating AI-driven virtual characters with NavMesh and Animator IK support.
  • Users can soon join multi-user VR sessions as a guest with a Non-VR Avatar System, which introduces desktop and smartphone controls for third-party users.
  • A Standardised UI system will provide UI components to easily create themed input layouts.
  • A fully integrated voice-over and subtitling extension to enable synchronised character animation and configurable subtitles settings.

Immerse unifies VR application distribution with its cross-platform SDK to support multiple AR/VR headsets such as the Quest or HoloLens, as well as mobile and desktop experiences.

The Immerse platform continues to grow as the firm plans to create a storefront for distributing training software, and the firm plans to deliver custom development services for additional VR use cases.
