This week at AWE EU 2024, VRdirect introduced VRFX, an enterprise-facing XR file format designed to streamline collaboration in cross-device VR project pipelines.

The VRFX file format aims to streamline business XR project creation and management by requiring no specific content player to interact with and manage immersive RT3D content. This allows companies to share the VR file format via E-Mail, file sharing, and cloud services without requiring additional software.

Moreover, VRdirect is securing this interoperable VR file format with deep consideration of security and compliance expectations in business settings in a bid to improve and enhance XR-based pipelines as the technology becomes increasingly adopted in business settings.

VRdirect already works with enterprise clients to provide users with no-code software for creating and sharing VR business content across VR headsets, mobile devices, and web browsers-with the recent VRFX debut looking to boost the firm’s dedicated portfolio.

HTC VIVE to Support VRFX Format

VRdirect’s mission to streamline VR content management for businesses comes when companies are interested in XR but must start building the correct infrastructure to deliver and support XR services/pipelines, no matter the scale.

Leading global XR headset manufacturer HTC VIVE is backing VRirect in its quest to create a flexible VR file format; by supporting the file format and accompanying C VRdirect applications on its portfolio.

Thomas Dexmier, the AVP of Enterprise at HTC VIVE, noted that the headset leader is “committed to ensuring open and interoperable ecosystems, which make immersive technology accessible for everyone.”

Dexmier also added:

This can be especially important for enterprise, and VRdirect’s initiative to establish a standard for VR project files can help to simplify the use of XR headsets at many enterprises.

HTC VIVE is working to deploy its Focus Vision and VIVE XR Elite headsets across workplace settings. Now, these devices have direct VRFX support, which allows users to leverage the file type and install a dedicated VRFX player via VRdirect.

Dr Rolf Illenberger, the CEO and Founder of VRdirect, also explained that HTC headsets are a “great choice” for many of the companies’ enterprise customers, which will most likely lead to collaboration between the firms.

Moreover, Illenberger stated that by supporting the VRFX file format, “HTC and VRdirect are now providing a compatible setup of VR hardware and software” that aims to improve VR adoption across an organization.

VRdirect also notes that it and HTC VIVE are looking to simplify VR adoption in enterprise settings with the VRFX launch, stating that the pair’s joint clients will benefit from a technical level.

What is the HTC VIVE Focus Vision?

The HTC VIVE Focus Vision is VIVE’s latest premium headset, announced this year, aimed at both consumers and enterprise users.

The company will offer two versions of the headset: one for consumers priced at $999 and one for enterprise users at $1,299. Unlike some previous VIVE devices, this headset can be used as a standalone unit or connected to a PC via USB-C and DisplayPort.

According to the HTC VIVE team, the new headset has numerous improvements over the VIVE Focus 3, including enhanced mixed reality features, improved tracking capabilities, and an added depth sensor. However, many specifications remain nearly identical to those of the VIVE Focus 3.

Users can also enjoy a resolution of 2,448 x 2,488 per eye, a 120-degree field of view, and a 90Hz refresh rate. Additionally, VIVE continues to use Fresnel lenses instead of pancake lenses, similar to those in the Quest 3.
