A speaker for VIVE Talk explained the cooling systems used in HTC VIVE’s latest product, the VIVE Flow, which targets entry-level virtual reality (VR) customers seeking relaxing immersive experiences.
Speaking on the mechanics of the VIVE Flow headset, the speaker discussed the “special thermal designs” in the device, which allowed for people to wear them “for hours on end.”
The VIVE flow was designed to allow users to “effortlessly lie back and enjoy VR,” and was designed to “continue to remain comfortable to wear for long periods of time.”
He explained, stating,
“We want these glasses to feel like they disappear so you can stay immersed in your virtual reality and stay relaxed”
The Taoyuan City-based company built the headset’s active cooling system to keep the device operating smoothly by pulling air quietly in the smart glasses from muted mesh intakes at the front and bottom.
Air flow was directed to vents to keep the smart glasses cool, but also “actively keep the user comfortable,” by pulling heat buildup away from the user’s face.
He explained further, adding,
“This means that wearing VIVE Flow will always feel extremely airy and comfortable, and together with how lightweight the glasses are, this thermal system helps our users feel fully relaxed and immersed”
Updates on the VIVE Flow
The news just weeks after the Taiwanese tech firm unveiled the smart glasses at its “Go with the Flow” product launch in October, which revealed the headset’s immersive features.
The new VR kit would allow people to experience numerous activities such as “meditation, gentle stretches, brain training, streaming our favorite shows or even meeting friends or coworkers,” Cher Wang, Chairwoman and Chief Executive of HTC, said at the event.
HTC also released the latest addition to its product lineup for official purchase in the UK and select countries after remaining in preorder status several weeks after the launch.
Following the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and recent Oculus controversy involving skin-irritating foam guards, HTC will allow customers to buy a set of silicon hygenic covers for added protection.
The headset, which costs $499 USD, £499, or €549, will also include seven VR experiences and a carrying case. Users can also purchase VIVEport subscriptions for $5.99 USD per month.
