US video game and software developer Epic Games is set to make major announcements as it showcases its current projects at this year’s SIGGRAPH event.

The online event will take place from Aug 9-13, where ACM SIGGRAPH will host Epic Games for two courses and five on-demand seminars.

The courses are only available to SIGGRAPH ‘Ultimate Attendees’ or higher, and in one instalment, Epic will introduce its OpenColorIO colour correction software for 3D-renders and VFX.

In another, Epic’s design team will provide a 3-part lecture on ‘Advances in Real-Time Rendering.’

The five on-demand sessions will tackle various elements of virtual reality (VR) production to demonstrate Epic’s powerful tools on its ‘Unreal’ platform.

The firm will also instruct attendees on using its tools to streamline and accelerate 3D content creation pipelines, as well as innovation and associability features of its cloud-based collaboration platform.

Additional sessions will discuss the metaverse and the enterprise-level potential of building an open, immersive VR network.

SIGGRAPH 2021

The news comes as SIGGRAPH marks its 48 anniversary, with the event gaining a global reputation of being the premier conference for computer graphics and interactive techniques over the years.

This year, the event will feature industry innovators in cross reality (XR) design and other advancements in interactive technologies.

SIGGRAPH 2021 will also host keynote speeches from thought leaders such as Dr Kate Darling from the University of California’s MIT Media Lab, as well as Berkeley Professor Hany Farid.

Moreover, this year’s event will curate immersive content from over 15 countries via its Immersive Pavilion and VR Theatre.

Business Potential of the Metaverse

Metaverses can give enterprise an engaging alternative to video and text chat. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many businesses adopted the concept or shifted towards a VR business model.

XR Today recently reported Andrew Bosworth, Head of Facebook Reality Labs, will lead Facebook’s new Metaverse product group.
