It’s been another eventful week in the world of XR with many exciting updates from key vendors across the board.

Magic Leap appear to be moving forward with their ongoing strategy to deliver world class mixed reality solutions to the enterprise, while RealWear continues to tighten its grip on the reigns of industrial-grade augmented reality.

HTC Vive also strengthened its position in the VR headsets space with the release of two exciting trackers, while VR collaboration leaders Glue gave some deep insight on how their technology is changing the business landscape.

But just in case you missed it last week, don’t worry! Here are the five biggest stories from the last seven days to check in full.

Magic Leap Appoints New CPO

Leading mixed reality developers, Magic Leap released some exciting news last week with the announcement of its new Chief Product OfficerTracey Trewin

With a wealth of experience in the tech space, including over 25 years at Microsoft incubating many of its leading products from early-stage to scale, Trewin will play a key role in pushing Magic Leap forward in 2021 and beyond.

According to Peggy Johnson, CEO of Magic Leap, Trewin “embodies the customer-centric, transformation-driven leadership” they are currently building at Magic Leap, and her expertise at harmonizing hardware and software development with enterprise customers will be essential over the coming years.

Is VR Collaboration the Future of Comms?

With our VR collaboration focus month still in full swing, we decided to (virtually, of course) meet up with Glue CEO, Jussi Havu, to discuss how VR collaboration platforms transform the world of enterprise comms.

As the leader of one of the enterprise markets leading VR collaboration platforms, Havu gave us some profound insights on where he believes the technology is heading and why these platforms will likely change the business world forever.

Mace & RealWear Revolutionize the Construction Sector

Industrial augmented reality headsets, developers, RealWear, made the headlines this week to announce its new partnership with Mace Group, a global consultancy and construction firm headquartered in London.

In response to the heavy restrictions placed on the construction sector during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mace Group connected with RealWear to help organizations power through the crisis with AR’s help.

Over the next few months, Mace plans to deploy around 150 RealWear assisted reality wearable computers across its network of construction projects, running voice-enabled Microsoft Teams and paving the way forward for the global construction industry.

Apple Mixed Reality Headset Expected Mid-2022

Apple fans across the world were excited to learn that the tech-giants much anticipated mixed reality headset is expected to hit the market by mid-2022.

According to well-respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the tech giant will release the headset as part of its “MR/AR roadmap” string with “helmet type by 2022, glasses type by 2025, and contact lens type by 2030–2040.”

Though we still have no fixed date or official release, there’s a strong sense Apple is finally getting ready to start rolling out its XR offering complete sometime soon – and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future.

HTC VIVE Launch Next Generation of VR Trackers

HTC Vive also released some exciting news recently regarding its next generation of virtual reality face and body trackers designed to enhance the user’s immersive experience tenfold.

As well as delivering better, more realistic virtual simulations for end-users, these tools will likely provide businesses with valuable data on how better to engage with customers and enhance the success of customer experience strategies at an unprecedented rate.
