While MWC 2025—on the XR side of things—primarily focused on the surging AR smart glasses market and, of course, Samsung’s Moohan, display technology leader TCL CSOT took to the event to unveil a new virtual reality display that promises competitive visual fidelity and low power consumption for headset vendors that wish to adopt its technology innovation.

TCL CSOT showcased this promise via a 2.56-inch ultra-low power consumption VR display that aims to provide a high-fidelity component for headset vendors. TCL COST noted the technology’s relevance to the professional and entertainment sectors.

Leading headset vendors like Varjo have already adopted TCL CSET’s high-end VR display technology; with this new technology, further strides could be on the horizon for broader market vendors as the space matures with AR and MR devices taking a new market share alongside VR.

Other features of the display include:

  • 1,500 pixels per inch (PPI) visuals
  • COA technology integration
  • high-efficiency Mini LED backlighting for improved visual quality and battery life
  • 3840×3744 pixel resolution per display
  • 200-nit brightness
  • 96% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage
  • 120° field of view

A New Standard for VR Headset Vendors

Following its experience producing high-end VR displays for industry heavyweights like Varjo, Jun Zhao, the Chief Executive Officer of TCL CSOT, notes that VR is still very much “transforming how we learn, work, and interact.”

TCL CSOT keenly highlights how VR is already a popular medium, with roughly 53 million American adults already owning a VR system according to research cited by TCL CSOT, and “as more people immerse themselves in the world of virtual reality, TCL CSOT is providing cutting-edge visual technologies that place them at the center of this emerging trend,” Zhao remarked.

“Our innovations are making VR experiences more accessible, comfortable, and visually stunning, bringing us closer to a future where virtual reality solutions are as ubiquitous as the screens we use today,” said Zhao, but as the market matures with new AR/MR devices arriving from an increasing number of vendors, the need to claim a stake in VR is becoming more vital than ever.

VR technology, its solutions, and applications are greatly different from the AR/MR solutions being deeply evaluated by leaders such as Meta. However, VR still has a true carved-out niche in the enterprise, namely use cases like immersive training, where complete immersion is key. High-quality displays like those from TCL CSOT can potentially only heighten that immersion and lead to greater end results.
