The XR industry has been a wild ride since we started covering it in 2020. Now, after watching the market consolidate and seeing enterprise XR merge with collaboration and workplace tech, we have news that brings both challenge and opportunity: XR Today is moving into UC Today, our Unified Communications and Workplace Technology publication.

This isn’t a sudden detour. Instead, it’s the logical next step. Immersive technology is becoming part of the everyday digital workplace stack, and UC Today is the right place to follow that evolution with the depth it deserves. Here are the details.

Everchanging XR Market Adoption

XR Today’s mission has always been clear. We set out to fill a major gap in B2B tech media by delivering authentic, premium coverage of virtual, mixed, and augmented reality. We also aimed to help enterprises and solution providers understand where immersive tech creates real competitive advantage.

Over the last few years, the metaverse narrative exploded with big promises for work, life, and play. However, we also learned something more grounded. XR continues to deliver value in targeted, high-ROI environments such as training, simulation, remote assistance, design, and frontline enablement. Meanwhile, broad workplace adoption has grown steadily rather than overnight, despite early hype.

At the same time, XR coverage in wider media has leaned heavily toward consumers. Because of this, and to stay focused on enterprise outcomes, our B2B XR lens fits better inside UC Today. There, immersive technology is treated as a core element of the modern workplace, not a side storyline.

An Evolution Rather than an Exit

UC Today is placing immersive coverage exactly where it belongs: inside the wider collaboration and employee experience ecosystem.

Our XR reporting will stay enterprise-first, critical, and grounded in real adoption. What changes is the context around it. Now, we will map XR more directly to the tools people already rely on to collaborate, run meetings, and stay connected in hybrid work.

This means a continued focus on how immersive tech improves engagement, enables better learning, strengthens distributed teams, and unlocks new collaborative workflows.

And with AI accelerating spatial interfaces, intelligent assistants, real-time guidance, and context-aware collaboration, bringing XR together with UC, EX, and workplace strategy is the logical next step. Rob Scott, founder, commented:

“XR Today isn’t disappearing; it’s gaining a more comprehensive platform from which to cover the intersection of immersive technology and enterprise innovation.”

What’s Next for Extended Reality Coverage?

With AI-powered smart glasses, spatial computing, and enterprise AR accelerating, we’re in a strong position to deliver even more joined-up coverage. Starting January 1st, 2026, you’ll find our immersive technology reporting across the full XR spectrum at uctoday.com.

This move lets us go deeper on how XR supports and enhances the workplace technology stack. Whether that’s AR-guided field service, VR training at scale, mixed reality design workflows, or spatial collaboration tied into UC platforms, these tools don’t live in isolation. They’re becoming part of a single, integrated transformation story for the enterprise.

For analysts and vendors, that integrated view matters. It’s where product roadmaps, buyer priorities, and real adoption trends are converging.

A Message to Our XR Community…

To everyone involved with XR Today and XR Awards: thank you for five years of trust, debate, insight, and energy; to our vendors and partners: your support helped keep enterprise XR coverage alive during some genuinely unpredictable market cycles. To our team: your commitment to thoughtful, no-hype journalism in a fast-moving sector has been unreal.

This transition reflects the reality of today’s media landscape. Between the creator economy, AI-fuelled content saturation, and the cost of running specialist publications, consolidation is how we stay resilient and how we keep delivering better value to you.

Heading into 2026, enterprise tech is stepping into the intelligence era. We’re excited to keep covering immersive innovation with you, now through a broader, more connected lens.

The future of work isn’t just virtual, augmented or mixed, it’s intelligently integrated.
