About the Company

Founded in 1994, DiSTI Corporation is among the world’s most established players in customised 3D training and maintenance solutions, specifically known for its GL Studio platform. Importantly, version 6.1 of GL Studio was launched in 2017, bringing enhanced workflows and DirectX rendering support. Aerospace is DiSTI’s target industry, but it also has a sizable presence in the automotive, medical device, and manufacturing sectors. Apart from the flagship GL Studio platform, the company also has a patented process framework and toolkit for orchestrating complex virtual environments for enterprise use cases – called VESDK (Virtual Environment Software Development Kit).

In the last few years, DiSTI has made several strides in cementing its market presence, partnering with Jaguar Land Rover, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin on virtual training initiatives and tying up with aviation industry providers like Tata Elxsi to power industry-facing solutions. In 2019, Design Interactive too partnered with DiSTI to enhance the duo’s AR/VR training development and distribution capabilities.

Finally, last year, the company won a $42.5 million deal with the US Army, even as it onboarded virtual training veteran, John Hayward, as its new CEO.

Let us now review the key features DiSTI has to offer and how it continues to make a lasting mark in the AR/VR training solutions space.

Inside DiSTI Training

As mentioned, DiSTI has two turnkey platforms for application development – GL Studio and VE Studio. Further, it offers use case-specific solutions for industrial sectors.

GL Studio

GL Studio is DiSTI’s proprietary software for Ui design and development. Given the company’s rich history in graphical user interface design and human-machine interface (HMI) innovation, GL Studio offers enterprises an intelligent way to develop and ramp up UI applications while optimising performance. GL Studio enables designers to build a variety of UI instruments, display screens, and immersive environments, particularly for the aviation sector. It ensures optimal CPU utilisation and lower lifetime costs while integrating with third-party software.

VE Studio

VE Studio is a development platform that helps enterprises create and maintain their 3D virtual training solutions. VE Studio is powered by the patented VESDK and has rich Unity integrations for an easy learning curve. VE Studio boasts of a data-driven architecture for maximum scalability, and all content and features can be repurposed for multiple departments and devices.

While GL Studio targets designers and engineers, VE Studio is meant for content developers, program managers, and software teams.

Enterprise solutions

DiSTI bundles professional services, its proprietary platforms, and customisation capabilities to offer end-to-end solutions in aerospace & defence, automotive, manufacturing, medical devices, and power & energy (utilities). You can gain from fully immersive training environments, purpose-built training for F-15E, F-16C, F-35, STRYKER, and other aircraft variants. These solutions ship with pre-built avatars, 2D animated schematics, physical constraints, and team learning capabilities to satisfy all your industry-specific training needs. DiSTI even has a dedicated competency for training employees on smaller tasks and procedures, where its Part Task Level Maintenance Trainers focus on sub-systems, component rebuilds, and troubleshooting, aided by a customised training device.

Why DiSTI Makes a Difference

In its several decades of existence, DiSTI has made an indelible mark on the global VR-based industrial training landscape, fulfilling highly complex and technical learning environment specs. Its clients include stalwarts like Siemens, Howell Instruments, the European Space Agency, NASA, Boeing, the US Navy, and several others. The company’s biggest USP is its IP and proprietary capabilities – for example, its patented process-driven workflow for risk-free training environments and enabling reusability of a virtual environment item.

And, in addition to 3D/immersive training, DiSTI has extensive expertise in 2D UI design and HMI design for ruggedised spaces and constricted industrial environments.

Finally, DiSTI’s use of Unity render makes its solutions compatible with a wide variety of devices and platforms, including AR/VR, desktop, mobile, and mixed reality. Companies at any point of AR/VR maturity could potentially leverage DiSTI’s solutions to improve industrial worker training and deliver rich hands-on skills.

What We Think

Enterprise VR is now fast surpassing the consumer segment, and companies like DiSTI have a major role to play in this trend. Introducing disruptive innovation for industrial use cases isn’t an easy task, and requires enormous technical expertise, resource investments, and an acute understanding of specific industry needs. DiSTI brings all of this, along with a compelling platform value proposition, to give you a 360-degree solution for the most complex of training requirements.
