Smart glasses and augmented reality (AR) solutions giant Vuzix Corporation announced on Wednesday its Blade 2 smart glasses, which follows two successful iterations of its Blade solution.

The device provides a roster of features for remote and connected workers and feature Qualcomm quad-core ARM chips running Android 11 to support enterprise applications. It will also include 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, mobile device management (MDM) support, 40GB of integrated storage, and added security features.

Vuzix’s Blade 2 wearables will sell for $1,299.99 in September, where customers can purchase them at the firm’s website across the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, Japan, and Canada.

The novel solution also provides transparent waveguide optics for private, sharp visuals at 24-bit full colour indoors and outdoors, and the device’s form factor also offers a lightweight, UV-protective design.

Additional features offer noise-cancelling microphones, high-definition cameras, integrated stereo, and ANSI Z87.1 safety glasses certification with further support for prescription lenses.

Paul Travers, President and Chief Executive at Vuzix, explained that enterprises across numerous verticals such as healthcare, security, retail, and construction enjoyed previous versions of the Blade, adding,

“This latest model is a direct response to widespread interest for a more muscular version, with greater functionality and performance, while preserving the all-important wearability factor”

The device also works with numerous use cases across industries for hands-free functionality, head-tracking, voice control, and visual assistance for linking real-time data and work instructions, uploading photos and video feeds, among others, for mixed reality (MR) functionality, Travers concluded.

The release comes as Vuzix trials its M400-series smart glasses for Japanese first responders to boost recovery rates for critically ill patients at several key hospitals, where doctors will leverage the device’s capabilities for real-time patient data, vitals, and video feeds.

The Rochester, New York-based enterprise also partnered with Westbase.io to distribute its product lineup across the UK and EU to meet demand across sectors such as manufacturing, automotive, healthcare, and utilities, among others.
