The Edge VR, a company building magnetic tracking technologies for room-scale environments, announced last week it had opened its first experience centre to demo its proprietary tracking platform.

Its cutting-edge technologies are deployed for immersive entertainment, education, and training use cases and were featured at the opening of its Experience Centre in Croton-on-Hudson, New York.

The proprietary system combines with magnetic tracking to create a “non-occlusive capability to interact with the physical world,” the company explained, adding its novel tracking system costs firms 50 percent less than rival firms with camera-based systems and can be deployed more rapidly than competitors.

According to the Westchester, New York-based enterprise, the new platform offers the following features:

  1. Full-Body Magnetic Tracking uses a “patented magnetic calibration and distortion correction method,” allowing users to correct steady-state distortion in any operating space.
  2. Occlusion-free tracking to eliminate line-of-sight issues with unrivalled performance and require a single calibration.
  3. Proprietary alignment algorithms to seamlessly align virtual and physical spaces within 5 millimetres.
  4. Immersive experiences include interactive physical components for gamers, which do not require external sensors and work jointly with the platform’s full-body tracking system.
  5. Room-Scale Operation at 20 x 20 feet with adjustable harnesses and WiFi 6 wireless streaming technologies.

Adam Anfiteatro, Founder and Chief Executive of The Edge VR, said in a statement that his company’s six years of deep research and experience in VR had provided “a deeper understanding” of current limited offerings and potential, opening up “a world of possibilities.”

He added,

“As an emerging technology, we fully appreciate the limitless possibilities virtual reality presents. After years of research and trial and error, we are excited to see all the pieces come together”

The news comes after several immersive training firms developed similar platforms, including InVeris Training Solutions (IVTS), which developed a See-Rehearse-Collectively Experience (SRCE) platform featuring augmented reality (AR) training tools for military and law enforcement professionals.

The groundbreaking tool features full freedom of movement and location, orientation, and vitals monitoring for trainees while incorporating tactical BlueFire weapons and after-action reviews (AARs).
