Neurotechnology firm SyncThink has earned its CE Mark certifications to reach ISO 13485 European Medical Device Regulation (MDR), allowing the company’s EYE-SYNC technology to register as a Class I medical device, it announced on Wednesday.

The achievement will allow the company to expand its solution across the European Union (EU) region and United Kingdom as it strategically targets major markets for emerging medical tools.

EYE-SYNC merges data analytics, proprietary software, and cutting-edge eye-tracking to monitor eye movements for diagnosing neurological disorders with 60 seconds evaluations of eye movement.

Numerous healthcare providers, hospitals, military, sports, and other institutions have trusted and deployed EYE-SYNC for their patients.

Healthcare providers can deploy EYE-SYNC for patients and institutions in August via Pico Interactive’s Neo 3 Pro Eye. The company also partnered with Magic Leap to further expand its solution globally.

The news comes as the Holliston, Massachusetts-based firm grows its advisory board and received approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to use the solution for diagnosing concussions and mild traumatic brain injuries (TBI).

Gary Gregory, SyncThink Chief Executive, said that the certification was a “tremendous advancement” to providing “objective, reliable measures of neurological function” for European healthcare providers.

Speaking further, he said,

“We are excited to expand our commercial opportunities and strengthen our position in the market, while making our product more accessible to patients everywhere”

The news comes as healthcare firms experiment with virtual, augmented, and mixed reality (VR/AR/MR) devices to improve quality of life and patient outcomes with similar tools.

Rocket VR Health unveiled a novel therapeutic solution for managing patient stress after receiving and recovering from post-operational cancer treatments.

Virti, a leading provider of medical XR training platforms, stated emerging technologies like hand and eye tracking could provide greater insight to deepen empathy between human and artificial intelligence (AI) conversations with virtual humans.
