This week at AWE EU 2024, PICO announced Business Device Manager, a first-party SaaS XR Mobile Device Management (MDM) platform to centralise and simplify workplace device adoption.
PICO’s new MDM service delivers a centralized dashboard for controlling device, account, and content management. PICO plans to launch Business Device Manager globally soon, offering a 12-month free trial only to device owners enrolling in a product before June 1st, 2025.
The move seems to cement PICO’s interest in deploying its headset portfolio in workplace environments rather than just focusing on consumer use cases.
PICO Business Device Manager Features
PICO notes that its launch of Business Device Manager aims to help large-scale businesses with XR adoption and onboarding by streamlining device deployment and daily maintenance.
The SaaS platform achieves this with features such as batch enrollment, which decreases the time needed to roll out multiple devices across a workforce, and additional support for device control in post-reset device phases.
Moreover, Business Device Manager supports multiple login methods, such as single sign-on abilities or PICO account integration. It also comes with additional real-time command features, including remote device control, live screen monitoring, remote reboots, and multi-software updates.
The centralised Business Device Manager dashboard also gives managers and IT teams an overview of device status and administration information, including security protocols.
However, hardware and wearables are not the only part of the XR deployment story. Bussiness-suitable XR content deployment is crucial no matter the use case, and PICO is also looking to assist with this side of the technology.
The management dashboard contains “centralized content management” features that allow managers to deploy suitable applications, videos, files, and virtual maps across devices that may help workers complete their tasks.
With that centralized suite, PICO offers a shared content library covering various XR Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and partners, therefore providing an additional hub of tools for businesses to either get started with XR or begin their journey.
PICO 4 Ultra Debuts for Enterprise
The news comes after the PICO 4 Ultra debuted on September 20 for £529. Additionally, PICO’s Motion Trackers became available for £79.00. PICO shipped the 4 Ultra across Europe, including countries such as Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, the UK, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland.
Furthermore, the PICO 4 Ultra Enterprise edition, designed for workplace use, will be sold through official partners across Europe, Africa, North America, Australia, and New Zealand. PICO also provides a developer suite to facilitate the creation of enterprise applications, making the PICO 4 Ultra Enterprise edition suitable for healthcare, education, and training sectors, with a notable cross-over with Business Device Manager.
The PICO 4 Ultra features PanoScreen Workspace, an MR multi-tasking productivity application. This app creates a panoramic immersive workspace by allowing users to place virtual monitors in real-world environments.
This immersive workplace solution allows users to control their virtual desktops, including customization options for the size and layout of virtual monitors to suit individual workflows best. The PICO 4 Ultra enables users to choose between fully immersive virtual working environments or augmented visualizations that maintain awareness of their surroundings.
To enhance the fidelity of augmented workspaces, PICO is introducing proprietary environment perception algorithms alongside its competitive hardware. The PICO 4 Ultra utilizes full-colour pass-through technology to create an MR computing environment, similar to the spatial computing goals of the Apple Vision Pro. Four environment-tracking cameras, two 32 MP colour pass-through cameras, and a time-of-flight depth-sensing camera make this capability possible.
PICO claims its pass-through cameras deliver high resolution and low distortion, resulting in a display quality of 8 MP, 20.6 pixels per degree (PPD), and a refresh rate of 72 Hz.
Additionally, PICO showcased its Motion Tracker solution, which acts as an alternative controller, allowing users to interact with various immersive applications using full-body inputs. This lightweight motion tracker weighs just 27 grams and enables seamless input, with device pairing taking only five seconds.
Other notable features of the PICO 4 Ultra include a display resolution of 2160 × 2160 pixels, WiFi 7 capability, spatial audio recording, a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset, and 12 GB of RAM.
