Metaphysic announced on Thursday that it appointed a scientific advisory board to back the company’s drive for ethical applications for the emerging technology.

The firm, which specialises in generative and hyperrealistic artificial intelligence (AI), appointed several members to the board. Experts include:

  • Prof Jeanne Fromer, Walter J Derenberg Professor of Intellectual Property Law and Co-Director of the Engelberg Center on Innovation Law and Policy, New York University
  • Prof Hany Farid, Professor in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences and in the School of Information, University of California, Berkeley
  • Prof Renaud Lambiotte, Instructor on Networks and Nonlinear Systems, University of Oxford and the Alan Turing Institute

According to the company, the new Scientific Advisory Board will collaborate with Metaphysic researchers to advise its best practices. This will allow the company to roll out its AI, ML, and computer vision solutions while outlining sound public policy, law, ethics, and other key concepts.

The Board will also guide the company’s current and future product lineups, leading to product innovations across its proprietary tools.

With its efforts, Metaphysic will outline its framework for leading, guiding, and directing the ethical application of AI technologies across the industry.

Transformative Power, Generative AI

Metaphysic works to create technologies generating the future of creative content linked to media, and its new advisory board will lead the charge to ethical AI.

Thomas Graham, Chief Executive and Co-Founder, Metaphysic, said that as a pioneer in generative AI, Metaphysic focused on “developing the transformative power” of the technology “in an ethical and responsible way.”

He continued,

“Professors Fromer, Farid, and Lambiotte will provide invaluable insight and guidance as we move our research forward in a way that empowers individuals to own and control their data while privileging consent, consideration and compensation as core principles for building products that impact the lives of real people”

The news comes as Metaphysic establishes its reputation in the extended reality (XR) industry. While there, it has created AI and machine learning (ML) solutions for hyperrealistic and immersive AI-based content.

Metaphysic has also worked with top clients in the industry such as America’s Got Talent. It has also scored partnerships with the Creative Artists Agency. Other accolades include earning a role as the Official Generative AI Partner for the upcoming Miramax film ‘Here.’

Its Every Anyone consumer platform also offers creatives hyperrealistic avatars linked to biometric data for a fully immersive, connected experience.

Metaphysic: Strengthening Leadership in Ethical Tech

The latest round of appointments comes after Metaphysic hired Sam Head as its Senior AI Model Artist. The leadership roles will allow the London, United Kingdom-based firm to expand its suite of AI solutions.

Metaphysic also hired key executives for the company, including Thomas Salama, AI and Compositing Supervisor, Matteo Olivieri Dancy, AI Innovation Lead, and Scott Bourne, AI Compositing Lead.

Executives filling the roles hold years of experience with special effects heavyweights such as Disney-owned Industrial Light & Magic (ILM).

In the last few years, numerous organisations have formed to create best practices for emerging technologies. The XR Association, Metaverse Standards Forum, and XR4Europe Associations are some of the leading institutions leading these efforts to create an open, transparent, and interoperable XR industry.
