Krouli, Avocor Explore Google Glass and Google Meet at ISE 2022

The two firms lauded the AR smart glasses for its Google Meet integrations and platform interoperability

The Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2022 has debuted hundreds of impressive solutions for the global audiovisual (AV) sector, many of which promise to introduce significant technologies for the extended reality (XR) market, namely via Google’s augmented reality (AR) solution, Google Glass and others.

XR Today spoke with executives attending the event, who discussed how the Google Glass ecosystem of solutions and apps empowered their businesses with the latest remote assistance technologies.

Henrik Wiren, Company President of Krouli Solutions AB, explored the benefits of Google Glass and how Google’s AR smart glasses and app ecosystem could empower global remote workers.

He explained how Google Glass frames would allow users to add their own bespoke lenses, including prescription designs, allowing them to view augmented content directly from the waveguide on the device.

The smart glasses also included a microphone, a camera for video feeds, and QR barcode scanning for warehouse workers, which he stated was “the most common use case.”

Explaining further, he said,

“The glasses offer several possibilities, especially the integration of Google Meet to communicate with colleagues. By clicking the glasses frame, you can access Google Meet and see everyone sitting in the conference room”

According to the Swedish exec, operators were advised to move their head as a cameraman to provide stable video feeds for viewers and avoid causing motion sickness “similarly to a cameraman.”

In use cases where highly skilled service technicians used the device, he explained how he could “easily meet up with my experts in the background [who] could see what I see through the lenses, providing instructions directly on the platform we’re sharing.”

Speaking further on a specific use case involving a crane-building firm with mobility limitations while working on developing high-rise building projects, Wiren told XR Today how workers could put on Google Glass headsets to manoeuvre equipment and avoid accidents with the hands-free device.

When asked whether he believed Google Glass would expand use cases to remote repairs for worksites, Wiren said that such solutions allowed remote experts to remain “in a central location.”

He explained further, stating,

“For remote repairs, you can have people that are not as skilled or trained for every single piece of your products such as forest machinery, tractors, or others, but still repair them at very remote locations and always easily connect with dedicated experts for the equipment”

When asked what he hoped to see for Google Glass in the future, as well as for AR technologies and potential widespread adoption, Wiren said that the industry was “only in the beginning of this” and that companies would launch a series of improvements for the technology.

He added,

“15 years ago, I was involved in the mobile industry and saw similar developments, which will make a significant impact. The beauty of this is that, either through these glasses or other devices, is that you will have your hands free, a [full] screen where you can communicate and interact with people, which is much more personal than simply staring into a screen”

He concluded that doctors and healthcare professionals could assist patients by scanning for medical journals and history using Google and other smart glasses while interacting with their patients, clients, and colleagues, which was “totally different from using a laptop or a mobile device.”

Avocor Discusses Security, Interoperability for Google Meet Solutions

Till Gotterbarm, EMEA Vice-President of Product Management and Strategic Partnerships at Avocor, told XR Today how his company partnered with Google to develop hardware solutions for Google Meet while focusing on improving interactivity with the communications platform.

The company recently launched a 27-inch control centre to assist remote workers using the Google Meet environment, allowing them to leverage the platform for video conferencing, he said.

Video and audio feeds required optimal connectivity “to be at their best,” he said, adding his company integrated true voice audio quality to allow remote workers to “focus on their work.”


He continued, explaining how control centre assistants could securely transmit documents on Google Glass from their Desk 27 Series devices as they were “all in the same cloud system of the admin centre within Google Cloud, [complete with] secure enterprise features already integrated”

He told XR Today,

“I think the interesting part here is that, with Google Glass in particular, [we] can use the touch interface on the control centre side and push content, whether via a jam session for whiteboarding annotations or graphs with document schematics, allowing local workers to guide remote ones on Google Glass with annotations and highlight what to focus on”

Control centres could also receive video feeds directly from remote workers on their devices, providing a “seamless interaction on both ends,” he said, adding it was a “fantastic way to support the remote worker in a very productive way.”

Speaking further on the need for interoperability, security, and stable operations across physical devices, Gotterbarm responded that security and privacy were important and that his Google One Series of devices, which included the 27 and 65-inch versions, were a part of that secure Google Cloud ecosystem.

Avocor relied on computing solutions integrated into the display secured with the Google Workspace environment as well as his firm’s enterprise-grade security encryption, which protected external threats from accessing data on the ecosystem as there were no disparate parts.

He explained,

“It’s part of one ecosystem, the same tenant, and the same integrated solution within the Google workspace, which comes from Google Cloud as well. So all the security features are taken care of, in this case, by Google directly, and we are not putting any layers in between. We’re just taking exactly what Google Workspace and our enterprise-grade security levels we’ve already included”

The Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2022 is taking place from 10 to 13 May at the Fira de Barcelona exhibition centre in Barcelona, Spain and has gathered a massive list of some of the world’s biggest tech firms, including Samsung, Zoom, Sony, Lenovo, and Microsoft, to showcase cutting-edge immersive solutions for the tech industry.

The event has also hosted panel discussions with futurist and XR host Amelia Kallman for the event’s Smart Workplace Summit, and esteemed guests such as Refik Anadol, an award-winning AI artist and Alan Greenberg, Founder and CEO, Illuminarium, among others, hosted keynote speeches for the globally-acclaimed meeting.
