JioGlass now offers unmatched support for extended reality (XR) developers after it recently opened a democratised developer platform to boost Indian XR innovation and collaboration.

The Mumbai-based firm is bringing together budding developers and brands to create immersive experiences for its smartglass lineup.

JioGlass hopes to achieve this through its innovative hardware and developer platforms, ecosystem, and application store aimed at fuelling Indian XR development.

What is JioGlass?

Bringing the MR revolution to India, JioGlass is introducing an advanced pair of MR glasses to bring consumer and enterprise-focused hardware to the region.

The glasses are available in three colours and offer a sharp heads-up display (HUD) running at a 1920 X 1080 HD resolution per eye, 50-degree field of view, and spatial audio for top immersive experiences.

JioGlass MR headsets do not require smartphone tethering and include a set of lightweight controllers. Additionally, the company website advertises users can switch to prescription lenses, ready in the box.

JioGlass Developer Platform

The ‘Jio Mixed Reality SDK’ is a tool for XR developers to create a new or port old immersive experiences for monetisation on its application store, marking a first for the subcontinent.

JioGlass is communicating the value of smartglasses by offering a wealth of XR tools, tips, tutorials and best practices to empower Indian developers to create optimal experiences for the platform.

There are already many applications available on the JioGlass MR Launcher that have helped build the smartglasses platform as a leading spatial computing device.

From watching movies to interacting with 3D holograms and organising virtual meetings, JioGlass technology has it all and present a brilliant opportunity for brands seeking to launch on their hardware.

Additionally, the application store offers media, learning, eCommerce, gaming, and productivity solutions that provide XR developers with a space to create and monetise a variety of projects.

JioGlass also launched its cloud service to improve connectivity and performance for shared MR sessions, where multiple users can visualise, interact, and collaborate simultaneously on 3D holograms.

These tools help users create immersive experiences for distribution to a massive user base of over 50 million households and 20 million enterprises.

This news comes as similar companies such as 8th Wall and Poplar work to democratise the emerging XR space, which present a fantastic opportunity for brands looking to increase awareness of immersive technologies as well as retain user bases.

JioGlass has also promoted Indian XR developments with its ‘App of the Month Award’ that saw three fantastic projects gain praise for innovations in XR content: winners Surya Namaskara, an MR yoga instructional app, Artsan, a portraits and paintings creator, and Exploders, a team-based sci-fi VR game.
