Taiwanese consumer electronics firm HTC has begun taking pre-orders for the full kit version of the consumer-grade Vive Pro 2 mixed reality (MR) headset.
The groundbreaking standalone headset became available for preorders in June, but this week marks the availability of a full Pro 2 kit, which includes a pair of base stations and controllers.
The full kit is available in the United States and Canada and will be priced at $1,399 and $1,849, although HTC has not disclosed when pre-orders would open to UK customers.
New Headsets From HTC
The news comes after HTC announced the Pro 2 and Vive Focus 3 headsets at Vivecon 2021, XR Today reported in May.
On June 10, the Taiwanese firm opened global pre-orders for the Vive Pro 2 and Vive Focus 3 headsets to enterprises and customers.
Both Vive models boast an industry-leading 5K display, or 2448 × 2448 pixels per eye (ppi), a 120-degree field of view (FoV) and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate.
The key difference between the consumer and enterprise model is the standalone capability of the Focus 3, which frees the device from being tethered to a PC for improved performance.
HTC is pricing the full Focus 2 kit at £1,272.00, $1300, and €1180 and the standalone Pro 2 headset at £719, $749, and €739, with both models boasting fantastic hardware for the price.
The powerful Vive Focus 2 follows an updated release of the consumer-level 128GB Oculus Quest 2, and US tech giant Microsoft is also set to release a Hololens 3 MR headset for consumers in the near future.
