Want to experiment with the Apple Vision Pro before you consider buying the device? No problem, all you need is an Apple Vision Pro appointment.
Just as Apple has allowed buyers to take other products, like the Apple Watch, for a test drive in the past, it also offers the same service for its new spatial computing headset.
Notably though, you can’t just expect to walk into an Apple store and try out a headset. You’ll need to let Apple know you’re coming so the team can set up a 30-minute experience for you. Plus, it’s worth remembering these appointments are pretty popular, so the earlier you book, the better.
Here’s your step-by-step guide to booking your Apple Vision Pro appointment, and an insight into what you can expect from the session.
How to Book an Apple Vision Pro Appointment: Your Options
Before you book your demo session at the Apple store, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, Apple says that if you wear glasses or contact lenses, it’s probably a good idea to choose contact lenses for your demo (where possible). This means the team won’t need to set you up with a set of ZEISS optical inserts.
You also need to be at least 13 years old to book an appointment, and you’ll need your own Apple ID. Plus, Apple says if you have any health conditions, then it’s best to check with your physician before you test the device.
With those caveats out of the way, there are three ways you can book an appointment to try the Apple Vision Pro.
Book an Appointment on the Apple Website
Probably the easiest option for most people will be to visit the Apple Retail website and book an appointment from there. Once you arrive on the site, scroll to the “Experience Apple Vision Pro” section, and click the Book a Demo link.
This will take you to a new page, where you’ll need to sign in with your Apple ID, and share your location, or enter your postcode (in the UK) or Zip code (in the US).
Select the store you want to visit from the list that appears and confirm your name, phone number, and email address. Then pick a date and time for your appointment. Finally click “Reserve” to confirm your appointment.
Use the Apple Store App
If you want to use your smartphone to book your appointment, the process is pretty similar to using the website. On the Shop tab, tap on your profile icon and choose Reservations. Tap the option to Find a Store and choose the location you want to visit.
Swipe down and select Reserve a Shopping session and click on Apple Vision Pro demo. Hit “Continue”, and confirm your name, email address, and phone number. Remember to check the box that confirms you’re at least 13 years old, then hit Reserve.
Book an Appointment at Your Local Store
The Apple Vision Pro proved to be very popular when it first launched in the US, with many stores running out of stock almost instantly. With that in mind, as the device launches internationally, we can probably expect a similar level of demand.
If you’re very lucky, you might be able to walk into a store and try a Vision Pro straight away, but it’s unlikely. Still, you can always speak to an Apple expert and ask them to book an appointment.
They’ll walk you through the same process as you’d use to book an appointment online, which means you’ll need your Apple ID. The employee will confirm the date and time of the appointment with you, and probably send you an email or text message if you request it.
What Happens at an Apple Vision Pro Appointment
So, what can you expect after you’ve booked your demo appointment? Well, that really depends on which store you’re visiting. Certain retail stores have been fully equipped with dedicated “demo zones”, with sofas and carpets intended to give you a more comfortable experience.
Once you arrive for your appointment, an Apple store employee will scan your face with an app, this is similar to the process you’d go through if you were buying a Vision Pro online. The employee will tell you to turn your head from left to right, and move it up and down during the scanning session.
This will help the store employee to choose the right “Light Seal” for your device, to ensure you get the most comfortable fit possible. This approach to customization is actually one of the things that sets the Vision Pro apart from other headsets, at least from a comfort perspective.
If you need prescription lenses and haven’t been able to wear contact lenses, most Apple stores will have a selection of Zeiss optical inserts you can use during the demo.
The employee will bring out a Vision Pro headset, the proper light seal, and your prescription lenses (if necessary) and set the device up for you. Once you put the headset on, you’ll be guided through a calibration process to ensure the device can track your eyes and hands effectively.
Next, you’ll spend around 20-25 minutes going through a few built-in apps, such as the Apple TV app, photos, Safari, and so on. If you’re keen to purchase the headset at the end of the demo, your face will be scanned again at the checkout, so the team can package the right foam cushion, light seal, and optical inserts with your device.
Quick Tips: Preparing for your Demo
Before you rush off and book your Apple Vision Pro appointment, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, as mentioned above, these headsets are in pretty high demand, so you might struggle to get an appointment straight away. I’d recommend looking at a few different locations if you can’t book a session at your local Apple store.
Secondly, it’s worth making sure that you bring all the right things with you to your appointment. You’ll need your Apple ID both to book your appointment, and to set up the Vision Pro during the demonstration. Make sure you take your glasses with you if you need them, and that you know your prescription, so you can get the right set of optical inserts.
Plus, I’d recommend wearing reasonably comfortable clothing, as you’ll be spending around 30 minutes in the store, moving around and experimenting with apps.
