The impetus to create digital worlds in the Metaverse combines added realism and bespoke imaginativeness.

More and more, companies like Ready Player Me, Spatial, Didimo, ExplodedView, and ARTISANT aim to increase interoperability for avatars and wearable accessibility. This facilitates a burgeoning economy based on identity development, functionality, realism, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to drive the global XR ecosystem.

XR Today interviewed Mishi McDuff, Founder and Chief Executive, House of Blueberry, to discuss the benefits of Web3 fashion, Metaverse Fashion Week updates, and empowering women with XR technologies.

The House of Blueberry is a Web3 firm focused on developing digital worlds and fashion to support user identities. The firm recently partnered with Roblox for a 3D boutique virtual shopping experience and has also teamed up with The Sims and Second Life to diversify immersive experiences for current and future metaverse users.

As the world celebrates Women’s History Month, XR Today would like to commemorate one of the firms empowering women and female creatives worldwide.

XR Today: What are the benefits of using digital fashion over physical goods for enterprises?

Mishi McDuff: Digital fashion is more sustainable, more accessible, and easier to scale. The constraints of the physical world do not limit users, so they can be a lot more creative, too.

Additionally, digital fashion is highly socialised and rooted in building community, which makes metaverse activations a great way to build brand affinity—particularly among Gen Z users.

XR Today: Could you tell us some of the responses and feedback you received from the Metaverse Fashion Week Show with Jonathan Simkhai?

Mishi McDuff: The Jonathan Simkhai show in Second Life was the first metaverse fashion show of its kind and a total game-changer.

House of Blueberry had been a successful business for nearly a decade by then, but the show really put us on the map with major fashion outlets like Vogue and Women’s Wear Daily.

We received amazing feedback from attendees across the media as well as digital influencers. I think that everyone was excited to be a part of something so new and groundbreaking.

XR Today: Amid Women’s Day, what could you tell us about the work your female-led team has achieved?

Mishi McDuff: Women and girls make up nearly half of all gamers worldwide, but the vast majority of game developers and designers are men.

When I founded House of Blueberry, I felt it was important to come from a place of being by and for female gamers. They are a very underserved market, and I wanted to fill some of those gaps, such as the need for avatar skins that specifically appealed to women.

XR Today: How will the House of Blueberry develop its future use cases for digital fashion, Web3, and metaverse ‘serious gaming’ technologies?

Mishi McDuff: In digital spaces, fashion might look different than what we are used to seeing on the runway. That’s because games offer an escape to alternative worlds. Some are futuristic, medieval, or strictly urban, but they are all powered by imagination and unlimited by real-life constraints.

Blueberry will continue to partner with game studios that create these incredible experiences. No matter the theme, we strive to bring unmatched technical quality, style, and excitement to these designs. Our first priority is creating content that captivates the community, and our goal is to be live on every game that enables user-generated content.
