This week, specialists in musculoskeletal healthcare, HealthpointCapital, announced the acquisition of a majority stake in ImmersiveTouch, a seasoned innovator of immersive healthcare solutions.
ImmersiveTouch is best known for its ImmersiveView platform, which offers VR and AR software solutions for surgical planning, navigation, and bespoke patient surgical guides.
At the moment, the ImmersiveView platform focuses on facial and thoracic trauma surgery for Craniomaxillofacial, ENT, Plastic, Neuro and Trauma surgeons. Surgeons leverage XR to facilitate the creation of interactive RT3D surgical plans for optimised efficiency.
The platform allows surgeons to use a VR headset, and surgeons can plan surgical cases in a 3D virtual environment, streamlining CMF/T surgeries, the firm notes.
Moreover, in operating room settings, surgeons wearing AR smart glasses can visualise a surgical plan or 3D image superimposed on a patient’s body, which ImmersiveTouch notes helps to reduce operative times and enhance collaboration significantly.
Boosting Surgeon Collaboration and Sophistication
“Imagine the surgeon being able to travel inside the body virtually, seeing all of the anatomy and planning their surgery from the inside,” explained Mike Mogul, HealthpointCapital’s Managing Partner.
Mogul also noted that by using the platform, surgeons can “then virtually fix the fractures, order custom implants and instantly 3D-print physical models.”
Mogul said:
Then prior to surgery in the OR, the surgeon is able to see through the skin, like x-ray vision, and visualize their surgical plan along with the bones, fractures, blood vessels, nerves and muscles. This is available today at Immersive Touch, our latest investment at HealthpointCapital.”
Pat Banerjee, founder of ImmersiveTouch, concluded by adding that the team provides “a groundbreaking user experience to a group of surgeon leaders. HealthpointCapital will be an experienced partner to support us as we rapidly commercialise and continue to develop exciting new applications.”
