Veteran Japanese information and communications technology (ICT) firm Fujitsu announced at the start of the week it plans to launch a new Web3 accelerator platform for Web3 technologies.

On Monday, the firm unveiled its “Fujitsu Web3 Acceleration Platform,” which offers users developmental environments and service application programme interfaces (APIs) backed by the blockchain and emerging technologies.

According to the enterprise, it hopes the platform will become a community for startups, universities, and partner firms amid the rise of next-generational Web3 apps and tools.

Fujitsu’s Web3 Platform

The new Web3 and blockchain-based platform will leverage Fujitsu’s Computing as a Service (CaaS) suite of applications. These include its HPC, Digital Annealer, and Data e-Trust tools.

The latter incorporates Fujitsu’s IDentitY eXchange and Chain Data Lineage innovations to authenticate transactions. It also uses blockchain and data verification technologies to secure data distribution across disparate systems.

Additional modules will include Fujitsu’s transparent trust transfer and ConnectionChain technologies.

The Japanese firm stated it would offer platform access free of charge to a select group of participants via its partner programme. The Fujitsu Accelerator Program for CaaS aims to drive collaboration for fresh Web3 services and solutions.

Fujitsu added it would roll out the platform across Japan in March this year while incrementally expanding the programme to global partners.

It explained how the platform will build a “rich ecosystem” to empower users to create Web3 apps. This will provide others with “new ways to interact, create, and share data freely and securely.”

The platform will also build use cases for creating contracts, business transactions, and digital content rights management, among others. The programme also aims to incorporate its Fujitsu Uvance vision for sustainability and cocreating “transformational, value-added solutions” to resolve societal challenges.

Co-Creation of the Metaverse

According to Fujitsu, the new initiative aims to reach several target milestones:

Co-creation via decentralised autonomous organisations (DAOs)

This aims to trial new Web3 services organised and promoted with democratic consensus. The technologies will reach objectives by visualising activities and value to distribute profits based on individual contributions.

Rights Management and Digital Content Use

The platform will also build new Web3 services to distribute digital content such as images, videos, and others. This will preserve copyrights and authenticate digital data. This will boost content creation by protecting copyrights and compensation to content creators.

Building Digital Trust

Fujitsu’s suite of solutions aims to test the development and the rollout of Web3 services to boost accuracy and reliability. This hopes to prevent data leakage and transaction fraud to protect blockchain and Web3 operations.

Comments on the Web3 Acceleration Platform

Yoshito Sudo, Founder and Chief Executive of TC3 KK, said his startup was “excited” to see Fujitsu’s Accelerator launch. The company’s solutions build digital products and AI engines for other enterprises and work with global gig economies.

Sudo added,

By participating in the [platform], we plan to prototype Web3 application services and DAO community services. With this initiative, we believe that we can promote our vision of “Gig Innovated,” a world in which we can achieve innovation with Gig Economy”

Hiroyoshi Miwa, Vice-President for Kwansei Gakuin University and Executive Dean of Organisation for Information Strategies added,

“Web3 is still in its infancy, but it has the potential to open up a whole new world. To achieve this goal, it is important not only to research and develop advanced technologies, but also to create new services. In the post COVID era, there are efforts to make use of Web3 in the field of education and research”

Miwa added the institution would use Fujitsu’s platform to “challenge various innovative initiatives” and collaborate on social implementation.

XR Accelerators and the Future Metaverse

The news comes as numerous tech firms develop immersive accelerator programmes to incubate global startups.

One of the largest in the world, T-Mobile launched its XR Accelerator programme to back startups, developers, and entrepreneurs. The 5G and Qualcomm Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform aims to boost augmented reality (AR)-based smart glass experiences.

T-Mobile leveraged its tools and platforms to test and develop AR creations from its cohort of startups.

Disney also opened its Web3 accelerator in July last year to facilitate growth of innovative startups and enterprises. A cohort of six firms entered the initiative to create metaverse experiences with AR, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and AI-backed tools.

In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Dubai’s Emirates NDB also kicked off its accelerator for promoting startups for metaverse customer experiences (CX). The programme partnered with Microsoft to upskill startups in metaverse strategies and technologies to boost Dubai’s position as a global metaverse hub.
