US extended reality (XR) cloud delivery service Echo3D has finished a funding round valued at roughly $4 million.

Konvoy Ventures led the funding round with participation from Space Capital, Remagine Ventures, Datadog, GitHub, and US tech giant Facebook.

With the capital, Echo3D can extend its XR cloud service for smartphones and now expanded immersive experience solutions for building the Metaverse, AR campaigns, and NFT marketplaces.

XR Powered by the Cloud

Echo3D offers a cloud service that provides powerful backend infrastructure with cloud computing to generate real-time 3D visualisations for augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) immersive experiences.

Unity recently named Echo3D as a Verified Solutions Partner, empowering the Echo3D ecosystem with refined deliveries of Unity-powered gaming and eCommerce applications.

Unity and Echo3D also employ a content management system and advanced delivery network, giving enterprises tools to manage and publish in-house XR content without software development teams.

In a statement to Venturebeat, Alon Grinshpoon, Echo3D Co-founder said,

“We’re a cloud platform for 3D applications, which basically means that we provide tools and network infrastructure for companies and developers who want to build games, gear, VR experiences, and 3D applications in general”

Echo3D provides the tools for enterprises to establish and manage XR platforms similarly to how WordPress offers firms the ability to maintain a online presence.

He explained further how enterprises can employ the Echo3D ecosystem, stating,

“With Echo3D, you store 3D models, animations, interactive content, and then you can stream that to game engines, mobile devices, headsets, and web browsers all over the world”

According to Grinshpoon, Echo3D is a platform that can covert 3D assets with a large file size into a visualisations as small as five megabytes.

Additionally, the New York-based firm expanded its developer ecosystem amid the Covid-19 pandemic, and recent funding from Metaverse advocate Facebook paints a bright future, with Grinshpoon expecting Echo3D to become the “Amazon Web Services for 3D [applications].”
