Unity, Meta Enhance XR Education in Major Partnership

Meta Platforms Inc struck a huge partnership with Unity Technologies, one of the world’s leading real-time 3D (RT3D) firms, to open a programme for educating students, institutions, and content creators.

The strategic alliance between the two tech behemoths aims to boost training for virtual, augmented, and mixed reality (VR/AR/MR) technologies among institutions seeking immersive learning via Meta’s Horizon platforms, including Venues, Worlds, and Workrooms.

Sensorium, Humanity 2.0 Launch Vatican City Art Metaverse

Sensorium, a tech firm specialising in Metaverse solutions, reached a major partnership with Humanity 2.0 to curate artwork from the Vatican City’s collection in a world-first initiative.

The foundation, based in Rome and Valetta, aims to tackle socioeconomic and cultural concerns using the Metaverse, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to showcase its art and online initiatives.

Meta to Introduce Hands-Free WhatsApp Navigation

Meta Platforms also made headlines following a series of links reported by XDA Developers, which showed updates to its WhatsApp messaging service complete with fresh AR features.

According to code leaked in the report, Meta will support hands-free voice controls from its growing user base of Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses.

Portsmouth University Opens XR Centre

Portsmouth University has launched an industry-first XR centre for expanding and developing immersive content in a bid to position the UK as a major hub for such technologies.

The institution’s Centre for Creative and Immersive Extended Reality (CCIXR) will build a suite of applications and solutions for XR technologies and the Metaverse for upskilling, research and development (R&D), and building further use cases for the sector.
