Meta Quest 2 Officially Supports Mixed Reality Casting

Meta recently announced it had debuted a version 35 update for its Quest headset lineup, just shortly after announcing massive changes to the company at its Connect event in late October.

The Menlo Park-based firm’s Mobile Mixed Reality (MR) Camera is a new experimental feature allowing users to record, view, and share videos in virtual reality (VR) experiences.

The simple design and setup is compatible with games such as Beat Sabre, Superhot VR, Synth Riders, and others, and comes just after the release of the Metaverse firm’s Live Overlay livestreaming feature.

Apple’s VR Headset Due 2022: Drives Competition Towards Meta, Microsoft, and Nreal

News of additional updates to Apple’s long-awaited MR headset circulated headlines after Ming Chi Kuo, Veteran Apple Analyst, explained in recent comments the device would contain Apple’s proprietary M1 chip and would not require tethering to laptops or smartphones to offload processing.

The reports counter previous news the devices would require tethering, indicating a major increase in onboard processing power and allowing the device to become a standalone head-mounted display.
