The immersive technology landscape is abuzz with activity this week as major companies reveal their strategies for the near future. Following Apple’s announcements at WWDC, Meta has officially scheduled its annual Connect event for September, where it will showcase updates related to its Quest hardware, AI smart glasses, and the Horizon platform.
In addition, Meta has introduced LlamaCon, a dedicated event later this month that will focus on the company’s rapidly advancing AI innovations, particularly its open-source Llama models.
Meanwhile, PICO is enhancing its XR portfolio with a new Motion Tracker and a significant update to its operating system. CareerViewXR continues to expand its impactful virtual reality career exploration program nationwide. Finally, TeamViewer is demonstrating its advanced spatial computing solutions for industrial training, underscoring the growing significance of immersive technology in enterprise applications.
Meta Connect Set for September, LlamaCon Arrives This Month
This week, just days after Apple’s WWDC announcement, Meta officially announced the dates for its Connect event. Meta also introduced LlamaCon, a separate event highlighting the company’s ongoing AI innovations and projects.
In an official statement, Meta said:
Last year was an eventful one with the introduction of Meta Horizon OS, the launch of Meta Quest 3S, and the expansion of Meta AI—and 2025 is shaping up to be another banger.
Meta Connect, scheduled for September 17-18, will feature updates on the Quest portfolio, AI smart glasses projects, the Horizon platform, and news for developers.
On the other hand, Llamacon will take place later this month on April 29th. This event will focus on Meta’s recent developments in AI, highlighting the significant growth and momentum of its open-source Llama collection of models and tools, as mentioned in a press release from Meta.
The AI landscape is evolving rapidly, and Meta plans to increase its investment in this market, aiming to establish a strong presence in this fast-paced environment.
Interestingly, Meta Connect’s announcement follows shortly after Apple’s WWDC announcement. Reports indicate that Apple is collaborating closely with NVIDIA, which could enhance Vision Pro as it enters its second year in the market.
Moreover, with Samsung gearing up to significantly impact the headset market, Meta may be preparing to make a bold statement at this year’s Connect event.
PICO Powers Up XR Portfolio
PICO has announced two significant updates for its mixed reality and virtual reality headset lineup: the launch of the Motion Tracker Waist Version and the release of the PICO 4 Ultra OS 5.13.0 update. This launch comes as PICO celebrates its 10th anniversary, and companies like Meta, Apple, Samsung, and Varjo are expanding their XR offerings into the second half of 2025.
The Motion Tracker Waist Version was introduced during an exclusive virtual event on Vrchat. This device is aimed partly at the growing social gaming market. However, if the trend continues, it could also spur investment in full-body tracking solutions within the enterprise sector.
The PICO Motion Tracker Waist Version enhances the existing full-body tracking framework by incorporating waist data, which PICO claims results in smoother VR interactions, particularly when users sit or lie down. This new tracking device is compatible with the PICO 4 Ultra and PICO 4 headsets and offers additional support for PCVR applications through the Connect service.
Starting at €49.99 / £39.99, the Motion Tracker Waist Version will be available online through Amazon.
CareerView XR Continues Nationwide Success
This week, CareerViewXR, a specialist in immersive education solutions, continued to provide virtual reality environments that introduce students to demanding workplace settings. The goal is to assist students in making informed decisions about their career paths.
CareerViewXR’s mission is to democratize access to spaces typically restricted for students, such as emergency rooms and areas governed by HIPAA regulations, rather than replacing in-person field trips.
During a conversation with XR Today last year, Matt Chaussee, CEO and Co-Founder of CareerViewXR, stated, “This system is not meant to replace actual field trips or job shadowing. However, time, geography, financial constraints, safety, and privacy often prevent us from taking students to all the locations we would like. This technology allows them to explore safely and with 24/7 access.”
CareerViewXR has recently partnered with the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) Office of Special Education and Early Learning (OSEEL) to launch a series of new VR field trip opportunities focused on construction, marine transportation, and tourism careers. Local Kentucky employers, including Cleary Construction, Ingram Barge Company, and Conley Bottom Resort, are collaborating with CareerViewXR to digitize real-life workplace settings for this immersive education platform.
TeamViewer Spatial Computing Solutions
At Hannover Messe 2025, TeamViewer showcases its advanced spatial computing solution for efficient industrial training and onboarding processes. As a global leader in digital workplace solutions, including industrial Augmented Reality, TeamViewer demonstrates how businesses in sectors such as aerospace, automotive, and mechanical engineering are enhancing their global training programs.
For instance, GE Aerospace, a prominent supplier of aircraft engines, is utilizing this solution in collaboration with TeamViewer and its technology partner Siemens. By leveraging TeamViewer Frontline Spatial, interactive digital twins of GE Aerospace’s commercial engines are made available to aircraft technicians through AR technology. This enables comprehensive, cost-effective, and high-quality remote training across numerous locations worldwide.
Oliver Steil, CEO at TeamViewer, added:
Spatial computing opens unprecedented opportunities for the engineering sector. Through digitalized remote and on-site learning, companies can deploy resources more efficiently, mitigate shortage of skilled labor and reduce travel and costs. Together with our partners, we provide a holistic 3D user experience to bring engineering data to life and enable intuitive access for technicians and frontline workers around the world.
