Japanese tech firm Epson has showcased its latest iteration of Moverio augmented reality (AR) smart glasses for industrial use cases, it announced at the Augmented World Expo (AWE) 2022 Europe on Thursday.
Epson’s demoed its Moverio BT-45C and BT-45CS devices at the event. The new industrial tools aim to tackle the rising demand for remote guidance, repair, maintenance, and training-based AR applications.
The smart glasses include a rugged design for hardhats and regular wear, meeting MIL-STD-810H drop test and IP52 water resistance ratings.
They also include binocular, Full high-definition (HD) 1080p transparent displays, integrated audio speakers, cameras with autofocus, and USB-C connectivity, among other features.

Epson also upgraded its BT-45CS models with Android-compatible BO-IC400N intelligent controllers for remote assistance and workflow guidance applications, offering integrated touchscreens, bespoke user interfaces, expandable memory to 2 terabytes (TB), and IPX2 water resistance, among others.
Specs also reveal features such as improved weight distribution and ergonomics and flip-up displays. Devices also offer ANSI Z87.1-compliant shades for use indoors and outdoors.
New Optical Engine Modules Launch
The news comes as the Japanese firm launched global sales of its optical engine modules used for developing smart glasses,m which offer 1.5x higher density, 5x more contrast at a 500,000:1 ratio, and a 1.5x greater Field of View (FoV) compared to previous models.
Epson upgraded the features with its advanced silicon organic light-emitting diode (Si-OLED) display and optics. The new solution aims to boost specifications for developers and businesses manufacturing their own smart glass solutions for higher-quality immersive experiences.
Epson has made a massive effort to push its latest immersive solutions in recent months. The industrial tech giant attended the London, UK-based PLASA 2022 and Barcelona-based Integrated Systems Europe events in August and May, respectively, to showcase its AR and projector screen solutions.

The AWE 2022 Europe is taking place in Lisbon, Portugal from 20 to 21 October, and will feature a huge lineup of industry leaders, startups, organisations, and entrants. Companies such as Meta Platforms, Microsoft, Siemens, Google, Amazon, Shopify, and many others will join the two-day gathering to showcase their latest products, concepts, and visions for the future of immersive reality.
