Developers of immersive products must consider various elements when designing frontline hardware. A primary key is hardware management and tailor-made augmented, virtual, and mixed reality (AR/VR/MR) wearables for specific use cases or environments.

Extended reality (XR) hardware must consider certain specifications to suit industrial and business environments. During the first XR Summit, Enzo Jia, Chief Executive and Co-Founder, Longan Vision, Vishal Shah, General Manager of XR Metaverse, Lenovo, and Sanjay Jhawar, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer, RealWear, spoke on developing enterprise-grade immersive wearables.

The event’s featured speakers highlighted the requirements for successful XR hardware deployment. When a firm deploys a fleet of XR devices, it must have the digital infrastructure to handle the large-scale adoption of immersive hardware. Additionally, the featured experts explored the technology features required to meet enterprise and industry 4.0 demands.

Scaling XR Hardware for Bussiness

Technology groups like Lenovo provide the infrastructure to manage third-party headsets. The firm offers Reality Cloud, a Software as a Service (SaaS) which secures businesses with an end-to-end device management cloud solution.

  • Enzo Jia, Vishal Shah, and Sanjay Jhawar are speaking at the first-ever XR Summit on September 22 to discuss creating business value with AR wearables.

Shah explained that Lenovo operates an end-to-end ecosystem which supplies clients with the firm’s XR expertise and software services to manage industrial metaverse platforms, enabling clients to scale a range of AR solutions using the cloud and hardware agnostic software.

Shah added that clients such as Micron and Single Band work with Lenovo to scale AR frontline hardware, adding that AR adoption assists with acute labour shortages through employee upscale and rescale.

AR hardware could reduce cycle times by 60 percent and error rates to almost 0 percent, he concluded.

Suitable Considerations for Frontline XR Wearables

On the other hand, RealWear designs AR solutions for medium and heavy industries. The firm’s Navigate 500 uses a single-eye display to project noninvasive AR visualisations to assist frontline workers.

RealWear designed the Navigate 500 as a robust solution that can handle hazardous environments. Additionally, workers can operate the hardware hands-free with voice controls.

Jhawar called the Navigator solution “assisted reality,” adding that the device combines health, safety, and situational awareness with XR, stating it keeps the user primarily in the real world while working.

Jhawar explains that various firms employ RealWear’s brand of frontline-assisted reality, including Ford, BMW, and Island Gas.

Hands-Free Operation

Enzo Jia explained how his firm is developing AR solutions for firefighters and first responders, adding that Longan Vision wearables can improve efficiency when operating in small-scale environments.

Longan Vision supplies frontline responders with a smart visor that firefighters can attach to their helmets, for example. The solution enables hands-free immersive features like thermal and infrared vision to help firefighters see through smoke.

Jia explains that hands-free navigation is critical for immersive frontline solutions due to its multitasking capabilities. During the conversation, he added first responders use the smart visor while performing search and rescue operations, knocking on doors, or carrying individuals out of hazardous environments.

Jia added that parties in the US, Canada, Thailand, Korea, and Europe had adopted the solution, with Logan Vision continuing its journey to optimise its portfolio and “save more lives”.

The inaugural XR Summit will take place from 20 to September 22, and joining the event will be numerous XR representatives speaking at roundtables on emerging technology and XR trends such as the Metaverse, immersive collaboration, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
