Recently, XPANCEO gave a glimpse into the future of XR wearables by showing another set of AR smart contact lens prototypes at GITEX Global 2024, following a heightened 2024 presence at technology shows worldwide.

The Dubai-based XR technology innovators are not creating products for use today, instead creating a future-facing precedent for transparent immersive hardware that allows users to interact with augmented interfaces without needing a headset or smart glasses.

However exciting, reality shows that widespread adoption of smart glasses is still years away, with augmented RT3D workflows and content generally still accessed via smartphones.

XPANCEO is seemingly using 2024 as a period to promote what its future-facing technology can provide via a series of prototype showcases. This comes at a perfect time, as AR interest grows, potentially outgrowing VR headsets. This creates a great platform for advertising what AR wearables could look like, especially with Meta showcasing Orion at Connect 2024.

At GITEX Global 2024, XPANCEO is showcasing AR contact lens prototypes, including ‘Smart Contact Lens for AR Vision,’ which the firm states displays high-quality AR images without consuming a large amount of microwatts.

Alongside the lens, XPANCEO introduced Data Reading, a framework that directs real-time interactable information to a device. Data Reading information can include device control inputs and biometric data. According to XPANCEO, users at GITEX Global 2024 had the opportunity to interact with these prototype devices and features without wearing them.

The news comes as XPANCEO won the Best in Business Award for Healthcare and the Photonics Middle East Brilliance Award based on its prototype technology, which the firm states will become fully functional in late 2026.

XPANCEO Tours Event Circuit to Show off Protoypes

It seems like this year is XPANCEO’s touring season. The company will visit various XR and emerging technology events worldwide to showcase its devices and the promised working prototype for 2026.

At AWE Asia 2024, XPANCEO displayed its latest development in AR smart contact lenses, following an earlier groundbreaking showcase earlier in the year.

During the AWE Asia conference, XPANCEO revealed five advanced AR smart contact lens hardware prototypes. XPANCEO presented different versions of its AR contact lenses designed for various use cases and users at the AWE event, allowing attendees to see the devices in person.

One of the prototypes is designed to assist individuals with color blindness by enhancing color perception using its display technology, which is “thinner than a human hair” to adjust lighting and improve contrast.

Another prototype includes optical verification tools for digital tasks such as making payments, transferring funds, and accessing restricted working environments. The prototype also highlights XPANCEO’s focus on providing a secure device at a time when outward-facing cameras on smart glasses raise safety and privacy concerns.

Furthermore, at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, XPANCEO, an emerging XR display innovator, showcased four smart contact lens prototypes, including one with deep XR features.
