Chinese augmented reality (AR) firm Rokid announced this week that it had launched its Rokid Max smart glasses. The new device offers a lightweight, compact movie theatre experience for users.

Weighing in at 75 grammes and providing a 215-inch large screen at a six-metre distance, the smart glasses provide stellar visualisations for moviegoing experiences.

The latest product in the Rokid lineup includes:

  • Cinema-grade MAX screen, with a 215-inch, borderless screen that is 50 percent larger than previous generations. It also supports 120 hertz refresh rates for comfort and clear visuals. The MAX screen also offers a field of view (FoV) of roughly 50 degrees to accommodate viewing from all positions and angles.
  • Quality audiovisual experiences, complete with solutions from Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation. The new addition provides sharper picture quality, a 1920 x 1080p micro-OLED screen resolution, and up to 600-nits of brightness. The MAX screen also reduces light leakage up to 90 percent and provides high-definition audio for theatre-quality audiovisuals.
  • High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) support for streaming service integration. This allows Rokid’s AR smart glasses to receive access to digital copyrights and offers a host of movies, TV shows, and services with no restrictions.
  • Eyesight Accessibility to adjust for users with myopia. Smart glass users can adjust lenses from 0.00 to -6.00 degrees. The headset is also TÜV Rheinland certified and passes the Low Blue Light, Flicker Free, and Eye Comfort tests.

Comments on Rokid Max Smart Glasses, Further Upgrades

The device hopes to accommodate shoppers seeking theatre experiences for streaming services, which smartphones and computer screens cannot provide.

Speaking on the device upgrades compared to the Rokid Air, Hui Du, Head of Hardware Design Centre, Rokid, said,

“These incredible AR glasses allow commuters to make the most of their time – to enjoy a large screen for watching movies, playing games, browsing, or getting work done, without carrying bulky and expensive computers, hosts, and displays”

Rokid is also set to improve its smart glasses’ interoperability with numerous mobile handsets after announcing its Rokid Station portable terminal computing unit. The innovation aims to resolve issues with phone incompatibility and will reach overseas markets in due course.

Customers can pre-order the devices at the company’s website with a price tag of $439 USD.

The news comes after the AR smart glasses manufacturer partnered with Qualcomm for its Snapdragon AR2 platform in November 2022. The new computing solution aims to enhance compatibility and accessibility for smart glass manufacturers globally and will enhance interoperability via Snapdragon Spaces.

Rokid also teamed up with XRSPACE to use the latter’s GOXR platform on its Air smart glasses in January last year, leading to greater compatibility for metaverse infrastructure.
