Rokid Inc. has outstripped its Kickstarter goal for its new AR glasses offering ‘Rokid AR Lite’ by accumulating 1,692 percent of the investment it was seeking in a single day.

That was yesterday. At the time of writing, financial support has now reached 1,925 percent of its initial goal from 776 backers, which equates to backing of around $385K for the $20K requested via the fundraising platform. With 43 days to go, the augmented reality (AR) glasses seem to be heading for even higher heights.

According to the AR pioneer, Rokid AR Lite is “revolutionising” the way AR technology is used. Its “sleek and intuitive” design plus advanced features enable digital content experiences for productivity, education, and entertainment.

Zoro Shao, Manager at Rokid Inc., commented on the progress of its Kickstarter campaign: “We are thrilled by the overwhelming response to Rokid AR Lite on Kickstarter.

“This achievement underscores the growing demand for accessible and user-friendly AR solutions.

“Rokid AR Lite empowers users to explore new realms of creativity and productivity, whether it’s through immersive gaming experiences, interactive learning modules, or innovative workplace applications.”

Rokid AR Lite Features

Beyond its lightweight and comfortable design, the Rokid AR Lite offers users an immersive and “crystal-clear” display for enhanced VR experiences.

The intuitive controls include gesture recognition and voice command capabilities to simplify navigation and interaction.

Rokid AR Lite can connect with smartphones and other devices for added functionality.

With its comprehensive application ecosystem, users can access a broad range of AR content, such as games, educational tools, and productivity apps.

What is more, the AR Lite can be used for work communication and collaboration via video conferencing and document editing.

The Rokid AR Lite represent the first AR glasses to be powered by the Snapdragon 6  Gen 1 Mobile Platform.

In Rokid’s press release announcing the launch of Rokid AR on Kickstarter, it explained that the glasses would be priced at $749, but early backers could purchase them for $499. This, it seems, would explain the exploding numbers of support it has achieved for the AR glasses, as the average donation is roughly equal to this early offer figure.

Rokid explained the implications of its pricing:

“The integration brings the power and versatility of a mid-range smartphone into an AR device, opening up a new chapter in the industry”.

The company’s Kickstarter campaign page details a product and shipment timeline, with product testing and certification taking place in June, the second phased of Design Validation Testing (DVT) in July, Product Validation Testing (PVT) scheduled for August, and mass production and shipment due in September.

The rumour mill was recently churning with the news that Meta may soon unveil its first pair of augmented reality glasses at its developer conference later this year.

Meta entered the glasses market through its partnership with Ray-Bans in 2021, creating “smart” frames that record audio and video and play music through built-in speakers.
