Nreal, one of the most well-respected pioneers of augmented reality technology, recently launched it’s highly anticipated smart glasses into the Japanese market. The new Nreal Light glasses hit the shelves in Japan with KDDI on December 1st, just in time for the holiday season.

The decision to roll Nreal light glasses into Japan followers a successful introduction of the glasses in Korea with support from LG in the summer of 2020. The glasses are fully compatible with 5G smartphones, including impressive devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra, and the Sony Xperia 5 II.

This launch in China is just another step forward in Nreal’s successful bid to transform the augmented reality market. Alongside a popular launch in Korea, Nreal has also been reaping the benefits of a highly active developer community. Developers everywhere are clamoring for a chance to get their hands on one of Nreal’s kits, and demand is growing.

The Vision of the Nreal AR Smart Glasses

The Nreal Light could be the smart glasses experience that we’ve all been waiting for. Overshadowing other attempts to enter the smart glasses landscape from companies like Magic Leap, Nreal light glasses are a convenient and easy-to-use entryway to AR. The glasses need to link to an Android phone, which works as a controller for your glasses.

When wearing your smart glasses, you can browse through information and apps on your phone in a visual HUD that makes interacting with technology more immersive than ever. There’s even the option to clip an extra cover onto the front of the lenses so you can access VR.

A roll out in China isn’t much of a surprise when you consider the fact that Nreal recently opened a new factory in Wuxi City. The company is hoping for the factory to produce somewhere in the region of 1 million units per year. Although COVID-19 made it harder for Nreal to meet demand for its developer kit, the problems are quickly being resolved, and the brand has big plans for the future.

Some people believe that delayed access to the developer kit is a strategic move from Nreal. Currently, the Light glasses are specifically designed with Android smartphones. By creating closer relationships with carriers that can sell 5G phones through exclusive developer access, Nreal can reach a wider audience.

Nreal is Stepping into the Spotlight

The current Nreal Light model available in Japan and Korea is the “Consumer Kit” option, which is cheaper, and more accessible than the developer kit. Users can control their smart glasses with their phone and can tilt or swipe to adjust field of view. Although there’s still a way to go before the world will see exactly what Nreal is capable of, this is definitely a step in the right direction.

After years of dedication and hard work, the Nreal brand is finally beginning to get the attention that it deserves in the AR marketplace. They’re ready to prove that the Nreal light isn’t just another concept for what smart glasses should be. Nreal wants to show the world what’s possible with this new level of augmented reality experience.
