Kognitiv Spark, a major augmented and mixed reality (AV/MR) firm, opened its first British office, BritishCloud reported on Tuesday.

The New Brunswick, Canada-based company unveiled it had opened its first office in the United Kingdom at the Harwell Campus in Oxfordshire.

Kognitiv Spark’s RemoteSpark software solution allows remote workers and professionals to connect for troubleshooting complex issues and receive support from additional teams to cut equipment downtime and lower travel costs.

According to the company, its new operations in the UK will allow it to expand in the European market amid plans to boost its global market share this year.

The news comes after the Canadian company saw a massive growth across the Americas, prompting it to open 16 new global positions to boost its workforces from 25 to 41 staff, the report added.

New roles in the UK will focus on European use cases for AR in manufacturing and defence.

Ryan Groom, Chief Technology Officer and Duncan McSporran, Chief Operating Officer and Vice-President of Aerospace and Defence, founded the firm in 2016. The company’s website states Groom is a cybersecurity specialist and McSporran served as a former British Army officer.

Yan Simard, CEO for Kognitiv Spark, said in a statement the decision to increase its operations in the UK was “a strategic and natural step” for the company’s growth.

Simard added,

“With such a long and rich background in the industrial sector, it is clear that the market in the UK is ready for this type of technology”

James Nettleton, VP of UK & Europe for Kognitiv Spark, added the UK was the “right location” for his firm to continue its expansion as Oxford was “renowned as a thriving tech scene” and close to Oxford University.

He concluded, stating,

“From here we’ll be able to make new connections and show the full potential of our software.”

RemoteSpark AR Features

According to the company’s website, its RemoteSpark AR solution has the lowest internet bandwidth requirements for an AR platform in the world at just 256kbps for full operations, including video, IoT integration, and streaming 3D holograms.

RemoteSpark also features encrypted end-to-end communications compatible with government benchmarks. Remote experts can also position 3D holograms to assist remote workers with tasks and repairs, and the platform can convert CAD files into 3D holograms.

Experts can also take photos for annotation in a remote worker’s field of view (FoV), and can add notes in real-time for workers along with sharing Microsoft Office and PDF files. Organisations can also integrate their live-sensor data to update workers with real-time metrics to boost situational awareness.

Kognitiv Spark announced in July last year it had been named as a global finalist for the 2021 Microsoft Partner of the Year Award for its contributions to defence and intelligence as well as mixed reality (MR).

The award recognises partners with the Redmond, Washington-based firm developing Microsoft-based products, namely the HoloLens product lineup, and has received over 4,400 nomination submissions from over 100 nations globally.
