Google Inc has ended its augmented reality (AR) Measure app along with many others in recent months, Android Police reported on Tuesday.

Google quietly killed off its Tango AR platform after focusing on expanding support for ARCore in March 2018. Measure is no longer available on Google play if not currently installed on a device.

People with the app currently on their devices will receive an “app is no longer supported and will not be updated” message.

The news comes after the app received poor reviews on the Google Play store, with many complaining it was full of stability concerns and failed to measure objects correctly, the report said.

The Mountain View-based firm has seen major successes in recent years despite facing setbacks on several AR solutions, including Google Glass, which was discontinued in 2015 for the consumer market.

But the tech giant continues to improve the product for business and enterprise-level use, and plans to update its defunct Glass consumer solution with a refined version in the near future.

The tech firm also released Google Lens, an AR solution allowing users to search for objects, directly captured on camera, on its search engine platform.

According to the company, roughly three billion searches have been logged each month, and the solution has become increasingly integrated with Google Translate to provide real-time translations of text.

Google’s Project Starline, an extended reality (XR) solution aimed at immersive content sharing and video conferencing, is set to disrupt the VR/AR market as enterprises anticipate its release.
